FS7: Gratical from Zacuto for my FS7 - necessary ???

Absolutely. Not knocking the EVF at all. Rather just stating that it's not a requirement to getting good pictures out of the camera.

Which Camera are you planing to use the Gratical? A7s? If so I think make a lot more sense invest $3000 and Upgrade to a FS7

I think it really depends on how much time in a month you spend looking into a VF. If you have 5-10 Days in a month of which you might be shooting using a monitor half of the time maybe it is indeed an unnecessary luxury item. I am booked in average 15 -20 days/month or more and use an EVF 90 percent of the time for me its a necessity to have a better viewing experience less strain etc. So getting one is a no brainer.

It's not a requirement but I think the case could be made that if you depend on those tools to help ensure a good image, it's worth buying.

All of the professional tools we shoot with are not "required". You could be shooting on an entry-level DSLR. But you don't, for several reasons. One of course is image quality, but the other is all the added tools/features that make getting good footage more of a sure thing instead of hit-or-miss. Same reason why we use on-set monitors, SDI connectors for reliable connections, etc.

So for me getting the Gratical means I get to use the same tools as the Odyssey, but in a handheld/Odyssey-less configuration, then I feel more confident that I'm capturing good images for my clients.

Exactly Josh. Good points. Another benefit of the Gratical is being able to view a nice LC REC709 LUT and send it on to a larger monitor for a producer/director to view downstream without ever having to worry about it being "baked in" to the master 4K file on the FS7.

You can view luts without baking it in. You just lose your wave form. Although I was shooting the other day and had a 7" hdmi monitor plugged in and it kept the waveform on screen even though it wasn't on the Sony evf screen.

Don't knock it until you've tried...

Had a good play with the Gratical at the BSC show today. It's very good, well built with a decent image and good exposure tools. I'm tempted.... very tempted...

This means I'll add my old Small HD DP4 just for the small WFM?
Hmm...

C'mon Sony. Don't tell me there's no processing power for the WFM left!

Erik, that pic deserves a wider audience. If you've got a twitter stick it up there so it can be the last of this 'oh sorry, there's only a Sinclair ZX81 under the hood' rubbish we've been hearing.
