Grain induced...

I like the first image's look from a color point. The grain looks good for the still. But without it changing per frame it's going to look static and distracting.

I've thought a bit about why grain, and I mean dynamic grain here, may be desireable to people. I've read about how the eye appreciates movement. "Eye candy" is a term I have heard it called. Maybe the subtle movement that grain adds contributes to this "eye candy". A viewer doesn't know why but appreciates the image more. It might help more for shots with static areas. Thus the grain would add movement to those static regions.

I was thinking abou this, and i came to the conclusion perhaps it was because we were viewing directly from the Camera. I think maybe when its pulled down to 60i, the grain flashes too quickly. ( cause each field is showing a portion ofthe grain of the image?) if we watched it on 24p dvd, on a progressive monitor perhaps it looks better.

idunno not a big deal, just whatever. But dude your bucket looks awesome. Was it you that shot a short about a lighthouse out an old window where you left 3db of gain on.

Who ever made that it was awesome.... i like grainy footage.
