Grading in REDLOGFILM vs Gamma3

Hello, I am new to RED and I am doing my first grading. The footage was shot on a Red one MX at 4K. Gamma3 and 2 look nice to me to start grading, but I would like to know what is exactly RedLog Film, what are the benefits pros/cons of grading with this. I have been playing with the setting and the look result can be similar in the end to gamma 2 or 3.

Cheers

overall I'd recommend grading in Log, that extra room in the shadows and highlights can be a huge advantage, and looks more filmic to me
even if the end the result is similar to gamma 3? having that bit of room can make a big difference, especially for high contrast shots like shooting a dark interior with a bright window
or a Forrest at high noon

This is not right, Both red gamma 2 and Red gamma 3 are non destructive, the dynamic range is the same, there is no difference in room in the shadows or highlights especially since it is RAW. If you are going for a normal contrast image it saves time to use Red gamma 3 since it is closer to the end product, but if you are going for a low contrast look for style or because the dynamic range of the sensor was exhausted in a high contrast shot then you want to start from log.
