another thing to be honest, those guns look really fake, they resemble grease guns in WWII and your film is 'Nam ,US GI's used M-16"s and M-14's,while the VC uses AK's.
can I just say, some GI's did use grease guns, because the M16s were prone to stopages, they also nicked AKs off dead V.C. in the earlier half of the war anyway.

m-16s were sh*t!

have I gone too far?

mobiledeli, good stuff man, keep shootin!
(dont keep shooting VC, thats not cool anymore)

Re: Grabs From War

hey- here's my advice- for your first films, stay away from war movies. You'll ruin your reputation. I made those when I was like 13, and they were cool back then, but it doesnt make sense if you dont have the budget. Stay away from it- itll end up looking bad on a hundred dollar budget. First off, no one has guns, and as mentioned in previous posts, it's not realistic to host a vietnam movie in Wisconson, or wherever the hell it was. And the attire doesnt fit.

If I were you I'd start on something low budget that you can make good. War movies can be fun to mess around with- but you need the resources to do so. Magic bullet cannot fix the story- which is another thing to worry about. You can make it look cool, but what about your audience- i've seen to many war stories home-made that suck because the director is going into it thinking "dude it would be so cool to show a guy getting his head blown off."

just my two cents. gl

Re: Grabs From War

I liked the compositions you had going, and besides that sandel being in that one shot, a lot of them are very good. Maybe it was just me, but my first impression was that those guns were hot-glue guns. :)

Re: Grabs From War

whys everyone all pissed at Kersho? I agree with him 100% and I dont think he was an asshole about it. The critisism(sp?) is what will make this kid better and all advice that he gave him were my first impressions when I saw the grabs. Wrong setting, wrong uniform & white shirts, pink blood and wrong guns. Not that this isnt a great learning experience, but this kid had a badass camera and I think that not trying to push yourself to get the best is a waste of dvx. The shot comps are nice and pretty decent using natural light.

Re: Grabs From War

I just can't justify praising someone or criticizing somone's work based on screengrabs. Am I the only one who holds this sentiment? I mean, it's screengrabs of a MOTION-based artform.

This could be an amazing piece of work...a hysterical comedy about kids trying to act like GIs, or it could be an embarrasing, awful attempt to be Stephen Spielberg with $100. Who knows? It's screengrabs!!

Let's see the piece then we can make valid, constructive criticism.

On another note...you're 15 with a DVX100? You are very fortunate.

Re: Grabs From War

everybody's pissed off at me because they cant handle the truth ,and the truth hurts. anyway,it's all good.very productive conversations.

Re: Grabs From War

no one is pissed off kersho. just thought your constructive (over) criticism was in the wrong arena. and actually, i believe a lot of people are agreeing with your viewpoints. in fact i originally agreed with you on the foliage and locale if you remember, but i felt you went a little overboard on someone who doesnt have the same resources as you or i. that's all.

Re: Grabs From War

yeah im 15 and got a DVX, but im not rich or anything, i just worked for a year to pay for it. yeah this is getting a revamp soon before we shoot the next scene and probably reshoot this one.

i do appreciate the critiscism, though some of it came off a little harsh. and btw, this is not like a film im making to blow the pants off the world, its an english project.
