Grabs From War

Re: Grabs From War

let's not kid ourselves,if you have $100 only ,then don't make a movie about 'Nam where there's maple leafs all over the place and obvious fake guns. You want to be better at what you do,be real.composition ,colors and shutter speeds and whatever tech specs you come up with doesn't really disguise the fact that the movie is obviously  a fake.be an artist, explore and forget the tech bullshit.i would be lying to you if i say that your work is good---keep on doing it.what i would say is----you got the enthusiasm and the will,it doesnt matter if you have money or not as long as your art is real.keep the willingness and enthusiasm but do away with trying too hard and keep it real.------> all the best buddy, dont give up!

Re: Grabs From War

there's two types of people on this board. People who point out the good and commend you, and people who point out the bad and none of the good and make you feel like ****. i appreciate all your comments (cough) and am working on more shots next weekend.

i would be lying to you if i say that your work is good---keep on doing it
- thanks!

Re: Grabs From War

you want to believe its good keep on doing it.people here to be frank are mostly pollyannic ,they'd blindly optimistically tell you what you want to hear . what i'm saying to you is an honest straightforward opinion.everybody makes mistakes, and we have to admit it's a mistake to be good the next time around.i am not your best friend here but honestly,i would love to see you succeed,i'm just pointing out where you went wrong.you have to admit and learn from it.otherwise turn a blind eye,in which case you'll never get anywhere.which choice will you take my friend?

Re: Grabs From War

good, now put these things in your head,be aggressive, don't conform and go make a good movie.like gustave flaubert said as quoted by frank zappa,"be regular and orderly in your life, so that you may be violent and original in your work".---under my DVX there is a small paper scothed taped with the words of churchill "success is failure after failure without loss of enthusiasm".everytime i ****ed up ,i would look at it and say "**** the world" and would go at what i'm working aggresively.be it a movie, painting or whatever .no one can stop me.

Re: Grabs From War

right.

this is also a place for learning. not everyone is making a hollywood epic. sometimes people have ideas but dont have access to locations or props. that is inspiration enough to grab your camera and at least shoot something, and be brave enough to post it for constructive criticism, not to be held to someone elses idea of what passes as real or as art. give the guy a break. he came here for help, not to be slammed.

now post some of your ****. let's see it.

Re: Grabs From War

here,i'll post my works.all videos are done without budget.feel free to explore my paintings, graphics and explanations.i'm not saying it's the best but when i made them,i did it with ****ing passion.i'm happy with it,it's what i want to do if you like it then good but if not then i don't really care.i'm here to please myself not other entities in the universe.----enjoy!

LOL Ant0mic...or should I say "lol antomic".

Re: Grabs From War

great, now take your attitude of pleasing yourself, and let others do the same. remember...it's about helping, not hurting. and what you say about pollannish blind optimism, apparently you dont hang out here very much. there is plenty of hard constructive creative criticism here. and we all learn from it. we dont learn from tantric quotes of winston churchill taped under our tripod mount.

please hold...perusing your website...looking for ****ing passion...

Re: Grabs From War

Ok ,continue to encourage the kid in the wrong direction.'nam with maple leafs and white t-shirts and sandals and whatever else.go tell him he's on the right direction.maybe his next movie would be new york in a jungle setting.you want constructive criticisms read my posts carefully.the truth hurts ,sorry about  that but you are the pollyanna!--- and control your tantrum, you're losing it man, chill, peace.

Re: Grabs From War

you couldnt be more wrong. i have been one of the harder critics on this board. but in terms of visual style, not getting hung up on a group of 18 year olds wearing sandals in the forest. you're the artist. suspend your disbelief for a moment. you are judging this by a few screen grabs. he asked for help on color correction. he is learning to cut his teeth with what he has. if you cant tell, i am personally offended that an artist such as yourself would suggest someone limit themselves with their surroundings. again. this is a learning experience for him. he's not pitching this film to hollywood for a theatrical release. in fact i encourage him in the right direction by stating that his composition and lighting and the effort put in to this project is commendable. i will also go one step further and say i enjoyed your paintings on your website. but personally i think you are full of yourself because you have too many pollyanish replies in respect to your art and you like to throw around other peoples quotations instead having original thoughts. primadonna.

nuff said. i'm not one to get into arguments. you're the one who told the kid not to get hung up on technical bullshit, and yet you berate his efforts to do just that.

okay. you can take one more jab at me, but i think this will go nowhere from here. continue everyone...sorry for the derailment.

EDIT: oh yeah. tantrum now under control.

Re: Grabs From War

hey,i'm the most open minded person when it comes to criticisms,i look at it in a hundred ways,i'm trying to help the kid by making him stronger and ruthless and brutal in his pursuit as a filmmaker.i was the one who gave him the first advice on how to correct the red but i saw something else that would make him better and that is correct his mistakes.sorry if i'm too harsh but that's how it is man,in this business you gotta learn how to take **** right in your face and i don't find anything wrong with it unless it's NOT TRUE.anyway,Antomic that was quite fun, don't take it personal or as an argument ,exchange of ideas would be more appropriate.i'm not gonna take a jab at you even if you attacked my persona (going out of the line),that's not my style.maybe some other time we can have the same discusssion over a glass of scotch or beer or whatever.i'm buying. all the best---gotta go back to figuring out Z-Brush.if you're good at z-brush please give me some tips.

Re: Grabs From War

kersho...thanks for the ramp down. the kid is 15 years old. let's all pull out films we did when we were 15. i didn't actually go IN TO space to make my star wars movies either. and i certainly didnt have a real lightsaber. mdeli already has a leg up on what i was doing when i was that age. i will always agree guidance in the right direction is the quickest way to learn. but my rant was being realistic about the imagination of a 15 year old. if i could only go back to 15 with a mini-dv and and iMovie... he's got plenty of time to learn the business and take the **** in the face. constructive criticism is the best tool. but flat out beratement isnt very productive.

and i only watched a demo of zbrush. but enjoyed the hell out of what you can do with it.

so, we cool... 8)

EDIT: and sorry about the personal jab...you, of all people, should understand the artistic passion. i got all fired up. (for you see, i, myself am a primadonna as well)  :D
