GoPro Hero4 images leaked.

I was wondering why there was no "medium" and "narrow" field of view options in 4K mode, only in 1080p and below. Don't get me wrong, I like the ultra-wide option. But it would have been nice to have all three options available for 4K. Let's say for example that you don't want that ultra-wide fish eye look in 4K, is there any way to un-distort that look in post?

You can't do 4K wide / medium / narrow because there aren't any more pixels on the sensor. Go Pro cameras shoot different FOV by cropping the sensor down to a native resolution, or using a higher resolution & scaling down.

E.G. When shooting 1080 "Wide" you're using the entire sensor's resolution 4096x2160 (?) but scaled down to 1920x1080. When you're shooting 1080 "Narrow" you're only using the center most pixels of 1920x1080 & no scaling is going on.

Didn't mean to complain at all, dustylens. I'm thrilled with the 4K option actually! And I'm certain to get one.
Been waiting for this for ages and now it's finally here!

Thanks for the tip on undistorting the fish eye, looks great!

And the 4K sample footage footage from the Hero 4 is breathtaking! It can't get here soon enough, :)

Zijital, thank you for explaining the field of view info regarding 4K and 1080p. I didn't know that.

This thing looks tremendous! Granted their release videos always look tremendous, but the detail and dynamic range look to be a substantial step up.

does anyone know why go-Pro never use their cineform codec? It seems perfect for these cameras, now we have very fast micro SD speeds... Surely some of the pros working with these cameras have asked for this feature?

Dusty gets it.

Haters will hate, complainers will complain, and doers will just get out and DO!

(is doers a word?)

Thank you very much Dustylense. Much appreciated.

Not sure why, but when I use that effect, Premiere Pro CC chokes on my Gopro footage. I don't understand because I have a maxed out iMac i7 with 32GB of RAM.
PPCC either plays it back choppily or just freezes. As soon as I turn the effect off, it plays smoothly again. It also seems to take forever to render when that effect is added.

GoPro footage is .mp4. You should convert it to ProRes422 before editing.
If you have After Effects you can try this as well.
