Goodbye everybody, I've got to go (F65)

Speaking of forums, etc.. overall I find the general activity of the Sony F's here on DVX quite low compared to the days of the F3 3-4 years ago where this place was a lot more hopping. As Mark points out, I suspect that many have just gone over to the Sony forums since there appear to be more Sony users there with a lot of good posts.

I think there are some possible reasons. For one, I think DVXUser on the whole has typically attracted users with sub $10k camera body budgets. Look at how busy the Panasonic GH forum is. The F3 was a stretch for many owner ops, and the F5 is even more expensive. F55, F65, and F35 kits are even rarer beasts.

Beyond how cost relates to total users, you have distinct phases with camera ownership. When you first get the camera you're on the forums a lot - sharing the excitement, asking for tips, trying to determine how to best utilize the camera's capabilities. As you get more comfortable with the camera and are booking more days of work, the amount of active time spent on forums understandably decreases.

Given how relatively few F35 second hand owners we have, I'm actually quite impressed by our community.

I think the lower-end camera, the more active people are on forums. Just try and find out info about the D-21. A lot of people who worked with those cameras and the F35 when it was new had the budget to walk into Panavision or wherever and just test it.

I like the community here - the Sony F5/55 are always going to have more people online than the F65 etc... if only because of sheer numbers - more F5/55s etc... out there, and much higher percentage of owner-ops.

It's a shame, I'm not really sure what's driven all of the traffic over there - the setup of the Sony forums make them godawful to use IMO. DVXuser is so much more pleasant to browse and discuss on.

There's no need to be homeless, just head over to the Sony F65 forum - those guys seem to be having a great time shouting into the nothingness together! :)

Yes and there you have people to talk about F65. No sense rename forum because 1 person buys a F65 here and you have nobody to talk F65 here.

Just use the "report post to mod" button and type your request / message.

My opinion still is F65 belongs with F5/F55 CineAlta section. But......

F65 is not like F55 at all. It looks like F35 and works like F35. Same category as F35. F55 is with F5.

Seems to make perfect sense to me. We are community of F35 users. F65 is next logical step from F35. A little while back there was no F35 forum at all...

Yes and this is the only F35 forum existing. But there is already a F65 forum and with F65 owners. I like this stay focused on F35. F65 already has forum.

I understand the desire for organization, but I for one am interested in JM's F65 journey.

Plus, the Sony forum is a wasteland. It is populated with one guy talking to himself, and zero Sony reps.

Good you understand the desire for organization.

Maybe open another subforum just for F65? If 1 person with the camera is enough to have a new forum.

Maybe he can post some of his F65 findings here or better sony general forum. You can follow it there. Everybody can. But why need rename this forum because of 1 person?

F65 forum is dead there but more alive than here for F65. Maybe another F65 owner posting there will revive it?

I'm ok to either rename this forum as F35/F65 or create a new one. I'm sure JM won't be the last owner of an F65 here...

Sure if more owners would appear a new forum is best. Leave this for F35. But when is only 1 owner just post on sony general forum. This is why it is there. Everybody can see it there. Why need to be here? F35 was also there before enough owners.

Yeah I think F23/F35/F65 is what it should be called. I don't think we have an F23 owner here but 99% of advice for an F35 is applicable anyway - anything that doesn't concern lenses, basically.

The F65 won't be supported by the 7Q because it is a fibre-optic output, there is no 4K output from the F65 at all, unlike the F5/55.

Where did the F23's end up? I've seen one or 2 show up for sale but they seem to have disappeared into some dark hiding place, probably with the 9000 PL's. Probably a lot sitting on shelfs that no one wants to sell because they have lost there value so much. Looks like one just sold on ebay for 9500 with viewfinder and B4 lens, so it seems to have a similar if not slightly higher value than the F35.

I've seen a few F23s for sale, indeed I even put offers in on a few of them when I still had pieces left over from my F900. I actually wanted an F23 over the F35 originally.

Sadly the few people that were selling them had generally very over-inflated ideas of their worth.

An F23 and a set of Zeiss digiprimes would be an unbeatable combo for the money.
