Good studio camera??

I am putting together a proposal for a company I am wanting to start.

I am having a hard time finding studio cameras that I like. I want something that I can hook up to a CCU, but also carry into the field for ENG type stuff or for film work. I want HD, but I can't afford to jump up to some of Sony's offerings. The HPX is in the price range that I am looking for, but I don't know if it can handle the studio work in the way that I need it too.

I also looked at the JVC GY-HD250 because of its studio adapter, but the HPX is such a better camera than the JVC.

So what do you guys think?

It's certianly got the connections on the body (provided the "remote" connector is fully featured - I'm assuming it is, check though!), so you could use it in a studio configuration with either a cable bundle/snake, or using a 3rd party Biax system like Camplex

Sorry to bump an old thread, but...

I have worked on a couple of sport productions lately that use the Camplex solution. I honestly have to say that they are dreadful!

They are unreliable to say the least. If you move and the cable gets kinked in any kind of way the camera loses power and headset. There is no easy way to do color correction with the head units in the control room.

And the latest problem that they gave us??

One camera went almost 180 degrees out of sync for no real reason. We had to do an entire basketball game with either seeing a horrible blue flash when we switched to the camera or only use the camera for replay through the DVCAM recorders.

I don't think I could use these units in a studio all the time....they would drive me nuts!

No kidding? That sucks.

I normally hear only good stuff about them too. Hmm...
What Camplex model/system?

In all fairness, the Camplex base stations themselves shoudn't do any color correction - they (the higher end models) just pass the control signals from the camera's own RCU to the camera.

But, Camplex was only an example. You could definaly make your own "multicore" solutions (for a lot less than camplex) if you are in a studio environment. - Multicore sucks in the field, but it's fine in the studio.

I have used the 301 units.

The camplex is good for what is supposed to do. I am not knocking it for that. Its just not an ideal solution.

For whatever reason they didn't have the remote units for the cameras. I would almost bet that the cameras we where using(Cheap JVC DV camera) didn't have remote jacks on them.

If you had the RCU and a camera that supported it I bet that would help out a lot.

There is also a company that makes a camplex type unit, but it uses fiber instead of coax. I bet they are hell to use. The cost of fiber and it is SO delicate.
