Good results with ACER (Core Duo) Latop + Edius Broadcast

My whole system is now complete and running.

I got myself an ACER Travelmate Core Duo 8202 1.66g - http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Acer_TravelMate_8202WLMi_LX.TAX06.108/version.asp

Paid £1279, but its the travel mate series and this seems to be better built than the Aspire (which you can get an equivelent model for about half the price). But the 8202 has a carbon lid and very high resolution 15" display.

Better than that is has 1PCMCIA slot and 1Express slot. The hard drive has a gravisense feature that can lock if there is sudden jolts to protect the head.

I've just recently installed Edius Broadcast 4 on it and it plays/edits 720p from the P2 and internal hard drive no problem in real-time, with effects.

I've yet to do a full edit on the latop, but it seems a complete solution that is quite robust.

I'm not a fan of all the software they bundle on latops but on the plus side it has very good back up/restore suite and good optimisation systems built in.

As an added bonus there is a programmable hot key labled "P" - which became thes P2 viewer launch key!

The latop is quiet - though the heat exhuast spills onto your wrist. It has 4 USBs and one mini firewire which I had to downgrade to SP1 firewire drive to work consitently.

The screen itself is quite grainy and doesn't have this super reflective material that a lot of machines have now, but does support a huge resolution natively of 1680x1050 which is a bit high for regular text and apps, but great for editing.

I'm just curious, how you downgrade the fire wire port? I had a problem that, perhaps, could be solved that way.

Thanks
