Good HIGH SPEED HD options to blend w/7d???

hey guys. I'm prepping for a music vid in which I'm planning to shoot mostly 7d but I have a few key scenes in which I want to shoot ultra slow mo stuff (think phantom/viper/etc). That said, I have a VERY small budget (2-3k tops). So what are my options? what cameras besides the viper/phantom/film cameras shoot around 400 frames a second or above??? Am I missing something?
any help is appreciated

cool find. and certainly cheap enough. i'm worried that at 600 frames, its shooting at 432x192 and that amount of resolution might not cut it. would be great to shoot at least 720 to match with the 7d

no worries. there's some cool vids up there. just assuming it wont hold up to an hd timeline though

I am doing a shoot in a few weeks for a client who wanted at least 240+ fps and the most reasonable digital HD option was a Phantom HD Gold rental. Depends how you view reasonable though...
If you could get your requirement down to 120fps the Red would become an option for sure. It's day rates up here in Vancouver are somewhere in the $800-1500+ range depending on what you need in a package.

Maybe there are some other hidden gems out there ... don't think so though :embarasse

what a bummer. the phantom would kill my entire budget. a friend of mine suggested shooting 60fps on the 7d and then using the Twixter plugin. any thoughts on this?

a lot of the consumer sony HD cams can do 240 from bursts now. i'm sure its interlaced, but 1080i still ain't bad. you could couple it with twixtor for some extreme slow-mo. i'm not sure how slow you can go without before seeing weird interpolation, but even at just 50% of that already slow-mo, you're looking at 480fps.

thats not a bad call either. whats funny is that the last option i thought of may in fact be the best--- super 16mm film cameras capable of up to 500fps. only about 500 plus per day to rent and for one day thats not too bad. won't be shooting a lot anyways so stock shouldn't be bad

16mm gets expensive no matter how little you shoot.

The Sony cameras mentioned earlier record in 3 second bursts, so that is extremely limiting.

There really isn't a really good cheap way to get this done.

I would say your best option is RED, then using twixtor. But even then, software interpolation can only go so far and still look acceptable.

I use the Casio EX-F1 to blend high-speed with my T2I footage. However, i usually dont shoot 1080p with the T2I cuz that'll be too big of an up-res for the EX-F1 high speed, so I stick with 720p on the T2I and 300fps @ 512 x 384 pixels on the EX-F1
