I want to get something for stills that won't cost me much. $400 to $500 used. I want to have the option for video. I'm kind of up in the air on how much I would use it for video, though.
My main cam is a C100 Mark II. For a B cam, I would normally either bring on a second cam op with a C100 Mark II or with a GH4. On a job that didn't have the budget to bring on a second cam op, I probably wouldn't bother doing two cameras, any way. I don't think that any of Canon's DSLR offerings would be preferable to the GH4 for me, for video. Except for maybe the 5D3 for the full frame look. But I'm not spending that much. And I have crop lenses. And the freelance companies that I work with, they would have specific requirements on both cameras, and the 5D3 is the only Canon DSLR that would possibly be on the approved list. The GH4, on the other hand, often is approved.
I only recently have built up a small set of Canon glass. I was shooting on adapted Nikon mount lenses with my AF100, and then on my C100 Mark II. So I've been wanting a stills camera for a while, but am only just now where I could do it w/o having to do manual focus and all.
I have:
Canon 70 - 200mm F2.8 IS II
Canon 17 - 55mm F2.8
Canon 10 - 18mm STM
The 70D would be a good choice since it can do 30 minutes for video clips. But even used, I don't want to spend that much. So I'm probably looking between the 60D and 7D. I think I'm leaning toward the 7D. The weatherproofing is nice for using with my one L lens. I'd have to get CF cards, but that's not a big deal.
I am full time video production, and make a liveable income on it. But I've never done any paid photography. If I did want to start doing some paid photography work, would the 7D be considered a workable professional camera, even though it's a bit older? I feel like it might be still considered professional and better than even some of the up to date cameras in that regard.
Any tips or suggestions?
