Good Canon camcorder for consumer?

Hi all,

I work in video production and TV so my friend's mom who works for a museum asked me to recommend a good consumer camcorder that they can use to record some interviews. Problem is, I spend all my time working with high-end professional cameras and so haven't really kept up with Canon's consumer models that much.

Can anyone recommend and easy to use camcorder with decent audio for less than 1000 dollars?

Thanks!
Jordan
