I use the Kata CC195 (the new model, though the old one should be similar). It's actually specced for larger cameras than the AC130, but it's the perfect size if you want to leave the shotgun mic on instead of having to take it off to fit in the bag. Kata say the 193 is the right size for the AC130/160, but it just wouldn't fit without removing the mic.
I have an AT875R mic with Rycote softie attached, and the 130 just fits and no more. There are storage spaces for batteries and other accessories, and an external pocket for anything large and flat.
I think it cost around 75 GBP, I'm not sure what it costs in US$.
Sorry, I got the price wrong, the 195 is closer to $200. The size is right though, if you got something of similar dimensions it would be fine for the AC130. Maybe older model, or a second hand bag.
I've tried Petrol and Portabrace bags over the years... I always end up going back to Kata, excellent quality and value.
See the thread that I posted today. Great deal and it works!
"Found a great deal on a camera case and wanted to let everybody know about it. I just received my 130a about a week ago and my current case would not work. Looking through some old posts, I found one by LanceOregon on November of 2011. He showed a photo of his 130 in a Kata D-Light Capsule-183 so I knew my new camera would fit... I found the Kata Capsule-183 HDV Case (same thing... different name) at Amazon for $39.00. It fits snug and offers good protection. I have a separate bag for audio and other accessories, so extra space in the camera bag isn't required. Going up to the Kata 185 would have been a $150 jump.
Great deal if anyone can use a case. Only 9 left when I last looked. Mine arrived today and it looks and works great."
Sorry- new to the group and I don't know how to add a link to the thread.
Here's a pic of the AC130 with shotgun mic and Softie attached, inside the new Kata CC-195PL bag.
The bag is quite large, be warned. I mainly use it in the car, where the camera needs to be transported safely. It is quick to grab the camera and run and gun with it, without having to fiddle with the mic etc. The bag is a bit empty at the moment, most of my toys are in a backpack. (My normal travelling-on-foot mode is: tripod over left shoulder, camera in right hand, all the accessories in a Kata backpack on my back).
The CC195PL does have a good strap as well for shoulder carrying. I'd hate to see a backpack for a camera this size, it would be so large it's crazy.
Note as well the "seatbelt" for the camera to make doubly sure it's safe in the bag.
The Kata CC-196 works very well for the 130/160. Can carry camera & mic, charger, batteries, AC adaptor, and even Barry's book for quick reference. You can even throw in a lav mic and cable for interviews. Armor-plated ends, and the cases help maintain even temperature.
Amazon has them available for $125 - a very good price.
