GH2 gonna try the hack finally...

so in other words, for my 6 class card i have to compromise with 12 GOP patch to get reliable results, right?

If you want to try low gop on the class 6 you already have on hand, my 88 is the way to go. But I recommend looking into an eventual card upgrade to go gop1 (you are part of the narrative fiction crowd).

Thanks Sage. I will research a bit more. I am in the process of getting a new GH2. I don't want a high mbits patch. I hacked my GH13 in the the low end and worked pretty fine.

Fwiw, I never thought I would be joining the Intra crazies at the bleeding edge. But, after trying it, I am a convert against my will. If you are going for narrative fiction, seaquake intra is priceless (I now say "whatever the cost!" I've lost it w/ the rest of the crazies).

that's the one you suggested? or do you speak of another patch?

yes of course i'll buy the new card... WHEN is another question.

hmmm... now it gets more interesting..
so in your patch, the 24p is GOP=3, right?
so why are the 720 ones GOP=6? because they are 50p, 60p?

Yes, because they have many more frames, particularly 60p, it is much harder to stabilize. When trying to craft an exceptional slow motion that wouldn't crash, 6gop proved to be the sweet spot, along w/ the other settings. Now, the burst patch offers the best over this, but you need a 95 card for that.

tested the card.. works ok.
it did "error playing file" once but 2nd time it played.

Yes, that's the quirk of the patch - if you record 1 1080p file after turning on the camera, and then switch to playback, it will do this once.

sage- i need your help on 720P to 1080 24p "import" procedure, or whatever it is..
but i use Avid, so it might be different for you. can you quickly give me your workflow?

In CS5.5, its just drop the 60 file in the bin, place on the timeline, scale to 150%, and set speed to 40% (on a 24p timeline).

btw- what about the "release" of the highest ISO options? i read that it should be "opened" in the latest Ptool, doesn't it?

Just check 'maximum iso limit removal' under 'movie related restrictions' before you save the firmware.

Look at this thread that I started Roei http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?267504-Is-the-gh2-the-new-low-light-high-ISO-DSLR-king you will have a good answer. I thought that it was just a gimmick, but I think it could be useful under certain circumstances. I really like the one shot at 3200 ISO because it more relates to what I want to do, I never thought the hack would enhance the low light quality high iso of the gh2, but it did. The 176 intra seems to really make a difference with the noise characteristic, in fact I think that before the 1dx launch the hack gh2 has perhaps become the best high ISO hdslr.

thanks Daniel.
it would be nice to see a complete iso test with the seaquake 176 on a certain shot to see the ungraded grain in action.
