GH3 Gold King Mine, Jerome Arizona MOV(1080,30p)

Dan. Like I said great video. But I have to think that you are blending stills into your shorts. Is that the case? Not all shots obviously, but a few of them seem to be still captures.

Look good. Thanks for sharing!

See you only used a polarizer. For the Full Sun shots what was your shutter, aperture, & ISO. Seems the aperture must have been very deep, probably in the defraction zone.

Thanks for the good words Bern.

Full sun settings are usually f7-9, shutter 100-250, ISO200. Several full sun clips were f2.8, shutter 1000-1200, ISO200.

Thanks for watching.

That was excellent....I paused several times and the paused sections look like quality photographs. Amazing- I guess I have to wait for the GH3 to become available. Was going to get a GH2, but wow, I think my choice has been made.

Very happy to hear you enjoyed the project. Thanks for watching, and hopefully, you'll be enjoying your own GH3 soon.

Just looks like Software panning and zooming, not pictures but it does give that impression.

Thanks for the reply.

Was only asking about the aperture in case diffraction was taking the edge off the 12-35mm, & hiding aliasing, but it wouldn't be an issue at your settings.

Dan, thank you so much for sharing. While many aspects of the image look amazing, there are two negatives that also stand out to me, and I'm surprised no one has mentioned them.

First, there is a lot of odd perspective distortion on the images. This is annoyingly obvious in the vertical pans. I have no idea if it's b/c such a wide lens has to be used, but it's very distracting to the point of making those shots unusable, JMHO.

Second, the movement is oddly stuttering. I don't believe it's my computer or monitor; I think it's in the footage itself. I've seen similar on some camcorders when panning w/ the image stabilization turned on. Maybe that's the cause, IDK? While subtle, I find it very distracting.

That all said, I really appreciate how this it shows off the colors, DR and resolution of the GH3. I'm just wondering what's up with these two points and wondering if anyone is seeing what I'm seeing?

Thanks.

I just tried that. But the motion outside looks odd to me. Perhaps it has to do with the usage of high shutter speeds?

BTW, is the barrel distortion that I'm seeing normal when using the 12-35mm 2.8?

Thanks much everyone.

Thank you for watching and the good words.

The "perspective distortion" was intentional, and why I used the 12-35. Barrel distortion maybe, but I'm not too sensitive to that. Vignetting at full wide can be seen in reference photos taken before each video clip, but not in the video.

Stuttering during movement in any Vimeo video lately is very likely. With the exception of an occasional hardware frame drop, the original or download file is more pleasing. OIS was never used, and the only thing moving fast enough to produce shutter stutter was the infrequent swish of a donkey's tail, and I cut that clip due to backlighting.

You did help me make an interesting discovery while reviewing my original files from the GH2 & GH3 for stutter. The GH3 MOV(1080,30p) image is much improved over the GH2 HBR AVCHD image.

Thanks again for watching and commenting.

What shutter speed did you use for the slow motion? The stuttering movement looks like it might be because you were shooting at a shutter speed of 60? If I'm shooting 60p for slow motion, I try to have my shutter speed above 250 - easy in that light. I might be totally wrong, but that's what I thought when I saw it. Otherwise, nice job!!

Thank you so much for the preview Dan. I'm looking forward to upgrading to the GH3 when available again. Do you have favorite lenses you would recommend?

Here's hoping you'll have your GH3 soon Cathy.

I use all Lumix lenses. Favorites ranked roughly as follows:

GX 12-32 f2.8. The 14-45 is also a great, less expensive, but not as fast lens.
14 f2.5
20 f1.7
14-140

Thanks for watching.
