Still searching for subjects to produce aliasing and moire with the GH3. This project involves more movement, more shallow depth of field and yet more opportunity for digital mud. Fortunately, at a camera setting of MOV(1080,30p), in my opinion the GH3 produces no more aliasing & moire than the GH2.

Pleasantly surprised with the much improved continuous autofocus and exposure of the GH3. With the GH2 AE/AF Lock is usually needed for pans & tilts. Auto focus and exposure changes are butter smooth with the GH3, even when moving between very different subject distances.

Razor sharp footage with great dynamic range. I own a GH3 but didnt have the time yet, nor the weather to go out and test more. You made it look amazing already. These could have been photographs.

No moire to be seen in your footage. Mine had some, but might have to do with shaky handheld and worse light? This looks extremely clean to me.

ya good job, im debating weather i should get a gh3 now! haha i used to live like hour drive from jerome , prescott az.

Yes Dan, please share the profile settings you used so we can compare.

I totally agree with you on the AF with the Gh3. It's very impressive.

Footage looks really good. Hopefully upgrading to the GH3 in the new year, it's stuff like this that just confirms it will be worth it.

Fabulous footage. The best GH3 stuffI've seen so far... very detailed and sharp... shows off the gh3, not the Dop's expertise at making good images. No moire or aliasing to my eyes. You've got me excited about the Gh3 again.... dammit. Was starting to have doubts after viewing aliasing in other video tests.

Switching from "hold" to "buy"....

Thank you for watching and commenting Stab. I hope the weather clears for you and the GH3 soon.

Many thanks for the encouraging words. I'm glad this project helped your decision making process.

Nice looking stuff. I only saw a bit of moire. Usually in long shots of grills, and the window air conditioner in the beginning, but that would have happened with most cameras.

Look good. Thanks for sharing!

See you only used a polarizer. For the Full Sun shots what was your shutter, aperture, & ISO. Seems the aperture must have been very deep, probably in the defraction zone.

That was excellent....I paused several times and the paused sections look like quality photographs. Amazing- I guess I have to wait for the GH3 to become available. Was going to get a GH2, but wow, I think my choice has been made.

The consensus of most Gh3 users who use the 12-35 panny find it too sharp, bringing out the moire and aliasing. In the case of the Gold mine video, a polarizer was used.

One thought did cross my mind... the polarizers and variable ND's that I use (moderately priced filters, not the high end expensive ones) usually soften the picture quite a bit.... to the point that I loathe having to use them.

Is it possible that the Gold mine video was softened thus, so the moire and aliasing didn't appear like some other videos?

I'd suggest the OP try shooting without the polarizer and see what happens.

---- On a side note: I've been buying up vintage lenses, and thought the Gh2's viewfinder works great in sizing up how sharp a lens is. There's a white iron fence down the road I point the camera at, to test the lens. If I see a lot of aliasing then I know I've bought a really sharp lens! The softer lenses don't aliase at all, or very little. The aliasing is not present in the footage... just the Gh2 viewfinder. I often use the aliasing/moire as a focus peaking tool.
