So, the planets aligned and somehow I was given the opportunity to create a video for a nation-wide General Motors product launch. The previous year they spent a great deal of money on a pretty generic video -- the past two months have been my attempt to provide something of quality and wow them.

This was all me (which is partially why I almost lost my mind). Here are a few screen caps of the more SFX related stuff. If you're interested i'll post the whole 6minute video

While i think a lot of it it patronizing, I was given some rather flattering compliments from the execs. meh... I think i was able to do some creative things in a confined space, but who knows.

Congrats!! That is truly awesome that you got to partake in something like this. I would love to see the final product. It looks pretty good.

One small criticism (if that is what you are looking for), I didn't like the white text with the red/green outline. That's just small an minor though. I think the rest looks great.

I like the little defect/retain bubbles over the cars. Cool.

yeah, any thoughts, concerns, hate mail or anything else is all appreciated.

The text for that shot was a last minute addition. I have to do a Daimer Chrysler version soon, so perhaps i'll change the text for that one.

I actually work for GM and feel we've been well represented...fine job, congratulations your a pro.

I like it too.
I'd probably like to see the blacks a bit crushed... more like in the first frame. I think that if the bottom of the cars is more contrasty, the picture can be richer.

Will you post the video?

any suggestions on the best way to export from vegas to get a clean output that runs at 24p and is a good file size? I sort of detest windows media, but i'm willing to go that route if needed...

I try to use Quicktime 7, H.264 in 428x321, keyframe every 24 frames, allow frame re-ordering (this is a good thing), medium quality, and set for "streaming with compressed header."

Otherwise, Sorenson 3 is the legacy format.

thanks, i'll give it a go when i'm home tomorrow and try to get it uploadd ASAP. sorry for the wait.

You're on a PC? You're set if you are, there are a ton of programs available for free that'll do the job. I'm on a Mac but I've learned most of what I know over the last 4-5 years reading about PC compression. Try here http://vcdhelp.com
The first grab is rich, the rest all have color issues, but I too would love to see the video.

like i said, i'll get it uploaded as soon as I get a good build tomorrow. the color correction process was rushed, they pushed the deadline up by 3 weeks at the last minute. Also, i've never color corrected something this massive before or formally been taught the process of doing so, I just felt it out. Once i get the vid up, i'd love your suggestions.

Sorry that it took so long to get online, compression is my bane. Thanks for all of your comments and support, I look forward to hearing your comments.

Dude! no need to apologize... we are all just desparete to learn about and see what others are doing with the DVX....

You ROCKED, this video is hot, did I say hot? I meant HOT... I guess you mission is accomplished. I did notice a couple of things that is up to you to judge weather it makes a significant difference or not. One is, not all the road shots had the same colors, it could be because of how much of the sky or road is shown, but I noticed. The other one is the interview with the gentlemen in the chair with yellow tie... I can see the mic (I neglected the exact same thing in a similar shot, did not fix the tie cuz I was too busy fixing for good light and audio.)

Other than that... I will suggest to lay back and enjoy the well deserved complements that will follow..

Cheers,

Thanks a ton. The mic thing was frustrating because my boss told didn't want to film at first, but then 10 minutes into a pre-interview he told me that he wanted to film.

I'm proud of it. The deadlines nearly killed me though.

Thanks again.

Great JOB!!!! I like the creativity, editing, and shooting. Very professional. That is my goal. Keep up the good work. How long did it take? How did you do the counter? What software did you use?
