Gluing focus ring to lenses, smart of stupid?

I just received my new adjustable follow focus gear and i thought it might be a interesting idea to buy one for all my lenses and glue them to the focus ring.

Making it faster to change lenses like the more expansive ziess lenses and so forth.

As far as i know its never been done before.

Before i do it i want to know do you guys think it would be a smart or bad move and why?

Thanks

Having a focus gear for each lens: not a bad idea.

Gluing them to the lenses: terrible idea.

I just wouldn't want glue/epoxy anywhere close to my lenses, with the risk of getting any into the inner workings of the lens. Plus, having the focus gear permanently attached pretty much limits potential for resale (if you ever decide to do that)... and it limits flexibility in setup.

As for "making it faster to change lenses", that has everything to do with setup before the shoot and having lens gears already attached before the camera rolls... glue is not necessary to make that happen, only a skilled AC.

i just got a few gears similar to that one and then put them on very tightly and cut off the excess. I didn't use any glue or anything because i don't want them to be permanent but they stay on well enough that they live on the lens. Works perfectly for me.

yes..but you can do something like that:

that's a lot of work but if the glue doesn't fail it's SICK NICE!!

the problem is: sooner or later, glue always fails

I've got gears permanently placed on all my lenses, but not glued, so they actually move a bit from time to time (not difficult to place them back where they're supposed to be, but I wouldn't rule out gluing them directly to my lenses)

You can use double sided auto trim (3M) tape. You may have to cut in down the middle to fit the width of your gears. It holds the gears great and will come off easily when you need it to.
