Glidecam quest

Hi everybody,

Wont to buy one GC 2000 with arm brace, I have some questions for the users that have using it:

1. What is the optimal time that someone can hold this setup in the hand (with the arm brace or without, no vest)?
2. Quick release or not ( what is the point of it, is it so hard to put and to get of the cam without it)?
3. I have saw this Manfrotto Micropositioning Sliding Plate 454 will this help a lot for balancing (it is quite a heavy about 0.5kg)?
4. And finally maybe should I bought GC 4000 (DVX with 5400 mAh battery, cassette and the light is maybe a little heavy for 2000) and to go to gym until get money for the vest?

Thanks Everybody

I just bought the cam no finished projects to show, check the last one I did with my old XL1, the quality compare to the DVX is s**t !!!

I'd go with the 4000, but don't plan on running very long at all without a vest. Even with the arm brce, that's a lot of strain on the forearm.

Get a quick-release adapter for your tripod plate. It takes a lot to get the Glidecam top plate on without it, and then you have to go through and completely re-balance from scratch. That can take a half hour out of your day.

Varizoom makes a less expensive vest that works with the Glidecam, though it does have some short-comings. Only one articualtion, and the arm is mounted on the center of the vest rather than to the right, which is not as easy to maneuver. But when you get used to it, it can get some fantastic results.

Thanks C2V, that for sure, better to go with 4000, I was just hopping to do more shots from hand in beginning, so quick release is mandatory, glidecam should think of that.

So C2V, from your experience how long can you hold 4000 without vest, aprox?

regards

Glidecam knows that quick-release is a good idea, but they have no way to know what your tripod/head system is. You have to buy the quick-release adapter suited to your own plate.

As for running time, I've not used the arm brace, but I can't run long at all. 10 minutes? The more you load on the camera (cables, adapters, bigger battery, mics, receivers) the heavier it is, and thus the faster you're forearm will tire. I've also found that the GLidecam is harder to control when one hand is occupied by actually supporting the thing. The vest makes things so much easier.

Don't know your budget, but you can get the GC4000 and the Varizoom DV Sportster vest for just under $1000. The Manfrotto quick-release adapter is about $50.

Someone posted awhile back that they had purchased the "flycam" (found on ebay) an Indian knock off. They had reported it was great quality at a fraction of the price. I have not purchased yet but have been eyeing it up.
