Glidecam or Shoulder-mounted Rig?

I don't want to imply that these two things are the same - but the fact is that I'm on a very limited budget right now - I've prioritised all the right things (lenses, sound, editing equip). I also have the igus SD glidetrack on it's way to me.

I really need an on-the-go form of stabilization for my shots. Handheld footage is way too jittery no matter how careful I am. I need something to eliminate that jitter, and reduce footstep tremor significantly. It needs to be functional, but I don't need to use it for long periods of time since I'm shooting narrative short films so there will be plenty of time to rest my arms between takes.

Is the better all round option a decent, budget, shoulder mounted camera rig with FF... or should I go all out with a glidecam or flycam?

You've already got a thread going... continue that one or have a mod delete it as to not clutter the forums.

I don't know if you're using this thread or your other one, but shoulder mounts are the way to go. Glidecams will give you a certain type of footage that you won't want nearly as often, it takes longer to setup and doesn't allow you to keep a hand on the focus during moves. It's useful, but not very. If you use it a lot it's probably because you think you need to just to get your investment's worth. If it were a full steadicam rig I'd think differently, but it isn't quite. That said, it really depends on what you want to do and what kinds of shots you need.

I built a shoulder rig DIY from home depot stuff and a quick release for about $15 total.

I got a used glidecam 100 pro on ebay for under $100 shipped, there are deals to be had.

I have the glide cam HD4000 and I frankenstiened a Redrock Captain stubing from Redrock and Indifocus parts which I can mount on my shoulder if needed. I did the latter for $200
