Glidecam and 60D

Hey guys, posting here in case people may be using the 60D, like me, and can help in this specific situation.

I just purchased an HD 4000 Glidecam to use with my 60D and think I would like to purchase a quick release plate. I also own a BHDV-561 monopod and do not yet own a tripod. I would like to know if anyone can advise me on what quick release plates I could possibly get that I can then use to switch from Glidecam to Tripod to Monopod with ease. I ask because in trying to research on my own this has gotten confusing, so I was hoping people may be using the same equipment as I and could help. The tripod and head I want to get may be the 701. Can anyone help guide me? Much appreciated.

I can't help specifically with those.

Up to now, I have used Really Right Stuff lever release clamps on all of my tripods/monopods/rigs etc. They also have a few screw clamps that will adapt to more sizes of plates. I always use RRS L plates/brackets so taht I can switch easily from horizontal to vertical for still photo.

They also have a cord clamp to hold an HMDI cable tight without allowing it to slip.

I just got a Sony stabilizer rig that uses a vest and a monopod. That will easily take a RRS clamp on the top.

I have a Zacuto Target Shooter on the way though, not sure what I am going to put on that. I want to be able to use the Gorilla plate so taht I can mount an arm, etc. to it. Unfortunately, none of the RRS clamps have side 3/8 or 1/4 drilled out spots for mounting.

I don't know of any other universal solution other than RRS/Arca Swiss/etc. I tried Manfrotto clamps years ago,, but all the different sizes and types are really a pain!

Use a Manfrotto 577 quick relase plate or its Calumet copy. It will allow you to use the same QR plate from your BHDV-561, so you can keep things standard on set. The 577 is probably standard for most shooters, at least the group i work with we all use manfrotto, so if we need to set up on shooter B's tripod or jib , its too easy to just clip in. Mixing QR plates of different brands is a bad idea.

I just came across this guy on eBay who is attaching Arca Swiss compatible clamps (like teh RRS) to Manfrotto 501 and other plates to allow for a quick realease.

I can't vouch for them. But taht would allow you to mount an L or similar Arca Swiss plate to teh camera, then just pop it in and out of clamps on different devices.

I plan to go this route myseld for my 6+- devices: Sony stabilizer, Redrock rig, Zacuto rig, video tripod head (fluid head), slider head, photo tripod head (ball head).

You put one standard plate on the camera when you buy it, use lock tite, and never have to scitch plates on and off among devices.

I always buy RRS L plates for all of my cameras.

They also have a $65 HDMI cable lock clamp & spacer for monitor.

Although the 577 is the one to match and works with majority of the Manfrotto systems. Have you guys tried the Giottos MH621 QR? It seems overall more robust with a centering snap in section and ratcheting lock lever.

Well it looks like I am getting the 577. Thanks guys! I was eying the 357 which has a longer plate, but if you say 577 will work with monopod, then I will go for that. I will be picking up the Manfrotto 755CX3 tripod and a 701 head as well. So...that means I just need to buy 1 QR plate for the Glidecam, is that right?

Yes, the 701 head I believe uses the 501PL plate and so you will be able to switch between tripod and glidecam quickly. However, you should know that the 577 have a mounting problem with the tightening knob but many solutions have been use to solve it. PM me when you reach this problem and I'll give you my solution.

Oh wow. Would I need to buy anything else then? Not being in the US means camera related items have to be ordered in, so asking in case I have to order more stuff I can do so in one go.

QR pltates from 501 504 509 plates will work in the 577 QR base.

Some plates a slightly different widths (talking small mm's difference here) so one plate may tighten different to another.
If you find the locking tab hits your camera and you cant tighten it , you simply pull the locking tab out and rotate it counter or anti clockwise.
