Glidecam 4000 Owner Question

Well I can answer that from the 4000 perspective... It's pretty ****ing heavy. I have been working with it in 5-10 minute intervals, seeing if it is my walk or grip that causes the pain, but it hurts and is heavy.

I refuse to drop $150 on the wrist thing though. I am just going to hold off, save 10x the money and get the smooth shooter and turn it into a cheap steadi - like (I said Steadi like so Mikko wouldn't come down and rip me apart) device.

All day today after working with the Glidecam for 2 hours yesterday my arm is hurting. I think I'm just at that point of being 100% balanced, but I'm not there yet. Then again, I am using a highcap battery on it... It hurts bad though.

Shot an XL1 on my GC4000 last night... it's been years since I used one of those things, and man, they are HEAVY compared to my DVX, even fully loaded! But, eh, you get used to it. Who doesn't need a good workout now and then?

Hi guys,
had the same problems when using my DVX100 with the glidecam 2000. Now I use my Power Belt (Dont know of this is the right translation [You use a "Power Belt" if you're riding on your motorcylce]), that reduces the pain to a less affecting level.
But I have a question about the Bogen quick release assembly. I wanna know how you mount it on the glidecam and what kind of describtion number it has. Also wanna know if this Assembly is compatible with my Manfrotto MA 501PL mounting plate.

Sorry for my bad english, guys.

You might want to look into the DV Sportster:

While it is not as beefy as the Glidecam vest and not nearly as good as the Steadicam Flyer, it sells for a lot less, about $800. It's still a chunk of change but if you're going to be shooting with the Glidecam for very long it takes a lot of the strain off. I've used it and when you get it set up (don't worry it isn't anywhere near as difficult to set up as the Glidecam itself) it the DVX with the big battery quite well. When moving it takes up a lot of the shock of movement, too. There IS a learning curve, but if you get the Glidecam itself down, the vest will be a snap.

Smooth Shooter

Smooth Shooter

I use a 4000 with a DVX100a, Frezzi light, sennheiser shotgun and wireless mic transmitter, NP1B battery and HoodMan. There is NO WAY!!! that I could hold this rig without a smooth shooter. I'm 190, work out an have shot hand held for hours and it's still to heavy. With the Smooth Shooter, it's effortless. I shot 1 hour straight yesterday out doors on an island with no strain. The build on the Smooth Shooter is top quality and I'd invest in this unit before others. Good luck.

The smooth shooter is the way that I think I am leaning personally right now, just from recommendations as well as the build quality. The problem is just saving the cash for an investment like that. I am still having problems balancing this glidecam though, maybe tonight I will try to post some video of what it is doing to see if anyone can help.
