GLIDECAM 2000 or 4000

Has anyone used the Glidecam 4000 with an HVX200 (or equivalent size camcorder) with the 35mm adaptors and lenses? I have a Glidecam and am looking on getting the Body Pod too, but before I purchase...I want to make sure I can shoot good steadicam shots using this.

4000 pro

forget the body pod. IF your flying just the hvx, get the wrist support and the 4000 pro. Then when you can fork enough cash, get the smooth shooter.

Or the merlin.

I agree with PaPa. The BodyPod, while it helps to take weight off of your arm, also removes the shock absorbing properties of your own arm. It essentially "hard mounts" the sled to your body, potentially making the vibrations WORSE. The wrist support will help. An arm, whether it be biological or mechanical is essential though. Now biomechanical would be da bomb!

You're not going to want (or be able) to use your 35mm adaptor with a Glidecam. It's going to be way too heavy and nearly impossible to keep your focus.

Oh blimey... I neglected to even read that part. Yes, freakish horse man is absolutely right. Way too heavy, and no ability to pull focus. Shooting HD with 35mm adapters on a stabilizer almost necessitates dynamic focus pulling. Shallow DOF, and lots of resolution mean small margins for error.

Thanks everyone! I will go with an Arm instead of the Body Pod and I guess I can't use 35mm lenses and a adapter with the Glidecam. But, I assume we can use a monitor at least, right?

The merlin wont take a decent sized camera with an adapter. The new pilot might do, but I have just bought the flyer and intend to use it with my FX1 and SGpro flip.

Does anybody have experience with the Arm Brace and the Merlin? I have made the decision not to go cheap on a knock-off and get the Merlin, but I can't afford the Arm and Vest yet. I like the Merlin for ease of use but would most likely go with Glidecam for cost it the Arm Brace doesn't work with Merlin.

kgimedia;
You won't need the arm (wrist, actually) -brace with the Merlin, it's designed not to put tourque on your wrist like the Glidecam does.

Phil;
And the Merlin with Arm & Vest is twice as good as the X-10 .. and cheaper!
