GL2 better than XH A1?

I recently shot an event on my XH A1 (DV 60i SP Mode) and GL2 (regular DV setting on SP Mode).
The footage is drastically different. Event though the XH A1 is a more expensive camera the footage is washed out and not as crisp. Almost like it was shot with a cheap 1 chip camcorder.
The GL2 footage is vibrant and clear.
Does anyone know if this sounds like I'm on a wrong setting? It is so strange that my XH A1 wouldn't deliver quality comparable to my GL2 footage?

it could be any number of things - the preset you were using on the XH-A1, maybe you improperly exposed a few of the shots, whatever. but the XH-A1 is DEFINITELY better than the GL2, in pretty much every aspect.

You don't know how to use an XHA1 if your GL2 footage is better.

The custom presets are pretty awful out of the box with the XHA1. Give it some color correction.

Also, Make sure AGC (Auto gain control) is switched off on the XHA1. the A1 doesn't do very will with the gain cranked. I try to keep it at -3 or 0 at all times. As far as scene profiles, the panavision preset is one of my favorites, but play around and see if you find one you like.
