Give up on T2i?

I know lots of people have these and have no issues with em. I'm on my 2nd one.

The first one I bought as a replacement to a GH1 with banding problems.

It was fine until I installed ML, and started having ML go wonky. Not paying attention I didn't remove it correctly and that was the beginning of my issues, with the camera powering on.

Since that time, it randomly wouldn't power on at times.. no lights, no nothing. Charged batteries, w/ or w/o magic lantern. With or without SD card. It didn't matter.
Then randomly one day, it would just all of a sudden start working again.

So I cleared it out of ML, and sent it to Canon under warranty. Got back a different body. They said they repaired the other one. The notes said there was an internal mechanism that wasn't working.. that was it. So I got the new body back (refurbished I'm guessing) and I could tell it wasn't my old one as it didn't have any scratches on it. Looked brand new.

All was well for 2 weeks, and then bam.. same thing again. I did not install magic lantern and formatted all my SD cards before using them again in it. A week or so later.. Bam.. starts working again. It does this 2 or 3 times this month. I was on a 3 camera shoot last night with t2i, t3i, and 7d.. and guess what! no power.. tried all 3 of my batteries, my friends batteries, my friends SD card.. still nothing.

Now I'm about to send it back to Canon AGAIN.. I like the camera, but its just a pain to deal with this crap. Is there any thing that might have these symptoms thats an easy fix? and would you go back to Canon after having 2 bad experiences?

I think you're just being unlucky: you got a bad first body, and the second had issues too (not that surprising for a refurbished body)
my T2i has been working without issues for over a year (with ML for most of that part), and I don't see lots of complaints around, but that is no guarantee that you'll eventually get a good body
in any case, it I were to buy a new body today, it would probably not be a canon but a NEX-5N (and many others would go for a GH2)

Yeah I am beginning to think so too.. Thought about having it repaired one more time, selling it and buying a T3i or 60D.

I was heavily looking at the GH2.. but a buddy of mine has the t3i and we are gonna be filming a feature, and I'm not sure how easy it would be to mix footage between the two.

That's very odd- I have 2 T2i's, both refurbished from Canon, that work flawlessly. And always running Magic Lantern on both (I'm actually looking to sell one soon, but this isn't the place to discuss that).

And my buddy has another t2i that I've borrowed for a shoot, never had anything quite like what you describe.

I'm glad you've ruled out ML, as that couldn't have been the problem on both. Now I'm wondering if there is some sort of odd accessory you are using that caused the malfunction in both?
Are you using some weird lenses or something? Did they ever give more detail about what went wrong on the first one? Wonder if a lens or adapter or something is causing the camera to think something is disconnected.

I've only used the kit lens. I only had the kit lens when the problem started. I didn't get the 2nd lens I have now which is just an old M42 50mm prime, until I got the 2nd body.
I've been using 16gb class 10 transcend cards this entire time, and I have 3 batteries.. 1 canon, and 2 opteka. Never had any issues til after there ML mishap.. but no way its ML with it being 2 bodies. I've never used any other hardware at all with it.

Thats why its so odd.

I've stopped using my year and a half old T2i after getting the GH2. Was so happy with the GH2 I got another one.

Found that color matching the footage from the T2i to the Gh2 difficult and time consuming (for me) and ended up using the GH2 exclusively for video only. I'd say the Canon gives better color right out of the box, and the Gh2 has better resolution for video.

I may sell the T2i, or keep it just for stills, where it still beats the Gh2.

For the record, the external mic input and the hdmi output on the T2i died somewhere on the road, just as the warranty expired.

yeah my only issue with getting a GH2 is that my friend is bringing his T3i to use on this shoot, and i assumed we'd have canon's because again difficult to match footage from two different brands.

Just a warning if you do go Panasonic...the GH2 sounds like an AMAZING tool to work with, but Panasonic's customer service and warranty are piss poor.
