#28 Forget pricing & build a compact Professional Camera!
#29 Forget pricing & build compact professional Zooms!

...And exposure value readings (aperture, shutter speed and iso) to screen and EVF please.

I like this list.

Agree, 10-bit 422 VFR is huge and I don't see why this isn't on standard GH5 since 1080p 60p 10-bit 422 is available, just not VFR. Also think high ISO and more DR is essential.

Other small requests (also should all be achievable on GH5 with a firmware update):

- 10-bit 4K 60p w/VFR would be amazing. It'll come eventually, but not holding breath as even EVA1 doesn't have this.
- Higher bitrates for HD Codecs for use in high VFR modes - 180fps, 120fps, etc. are all way too thin on codec to be truly useable
- 200mbps / 400mbps as LongGOP options, not just ALL-I
- Custom IBIS Focal length presets (3 locked options or manual entry, and I don't use any of the three locked options - why can't I customize these?
- IBIS focal length indicator on screen (small text of number below icon). All too easy to forget to change to proper focal length, especially when an external HDMI monitor is connected, the prompt is bypassed, and I have forgot to change this multiple times.

The list is probably a little much to squeeze into the GH cameras, but certainly not too much to put into a proper replacement to the AF100.

Alot of these seem like requests for the EVA-2 than the next GH camera.

Agreed.

Was requested to put together a wishlist, & with little time to pull it off, shot for the moon.

#1-#10 are feature requests I presented to Panasonic when they were developing the GH5, & these still top my list.

Panasonic surveys focus groups, but I can think of no better Group than DVXuser’s forum members, so hope others chime in here with their requests. Would be great to whittle it down to the Top 10 most requested features.

...That's a really long list and I would expect to only get a few of these items in the GH6 camera. If I had to choose only one feature, for me it would be better dynamic-range.

#2 False Color
#6 Usable Autofocus
#7 10-bit 422 Variable Frame Rate
#9 Wider Dynamic Range
#10 Higher ISO
#13 Better VLog implemention & LUT

#19 EVF & LCD that don’t automatically dim
#21 Reduced HDMI Lag
#22 Move the HDMI port so it allows LCD to fully rotate
#23 Short cable that allows relocating XLR adapter

All of this looks do-able for the next generations of GHx cameras.

#24 XLR Adapter that allows recording a Primary Track, & a Safety Track, from a single XLR Input

Are we absolutely sure that the GH5 XLR unit doesn't do this already ?

I don't own this unit yet (I will buy it for the first job that requires it), but the switches look almost identical to all of the past Panasonic ENG camera audio layouts, where you can split the channel 1 input across both channel 1 and 2, and set different gain levels for each channel.

Cary,

When you state False Color can already be done I assume your referring to adding a False Color mLUT. While useful, & on my To Do list, I’d like the option to toggle False Color on/off in a manner similar to how Waveform, & Vectorscope, can be enabled. Ideally a push of a button would toggle False Color even while recording, & previewing a mLUT applied to underlying Log, so exposure could be determined as the light levels shift.

I totally agree, that is missing and it seems such an easy firmware fix to be able to assign this to a button.

i am encouraged that so many believe that panasonic is willing to listen to professional users.

i know the other camera makers profess the same but i never got that sense from canon or nikon.

the sony reps here in nyc have always been great-professional and forthcoming with info. but that is not the same as listening.

by the way, great list!

be well.

Having focus and focal length readout onscreen would be a step up imho. Would be a great addition for me. DR, AF and ISO would be the big three with a leaning on AF to stay current with Sony and Canon.

Agreed on focal length / focus distance instead of the Mountian and flower. As I know what ballpark distance I want to focus on to get hyperfocal, but at the moment I’m using single AF.

Also, if they are indeed listening.

* Complete customisable dials (I want ISO on the top dial without pressing a button first)
* Fn Function to quickly enable / disable the OSD over HDMI
* Fn Function for true one touch MWB (press and it sets Custom1 to that without needing to press anything else)
* All dial lock ability (I see the G9 has it......)
* AF ability while in VFR - even if to set just before hitting record
* Fix focus peaking as it doesn’t use AutoISO when you punch in.
* Focus Punch In, whole recordings

Not asking for unrealistic stuff - just to fix / improve what we have.

#12 Global Shutter

 Faster readout is not enough. I want pure and perfect motion. I'm not just thinking of panning across telephone poles. Think camera flashes, golf swings, things caught in slow motion, etc. Just do it!

Okay, and now for some modest encouragements, toward any camera maker, really.

  • Thunderbolt 3, instead of . . . all those other jacks, including power! Thunderbolt 3 is basically USB-C but twice the bandwidth, 40 Gbps (5 GB/sec. [mind your b's and B's]).
  • CFexpress cards. The size and shape of XQD cards. 16 Gbps (2 GB/sec.). I believe that's enough for 180 fps of DCI 10-bit 4K RAW.

What are we going to do for wishlists in 2030 when cameras as small as GH5 have 6K 12-bit 4:4:4 @ 240fps, super clean ISO 12,800, 16 stops of DR, IBIS that you can run with, 4K ultra bright screens, all day battery life, global shutters, and more?

One of my long-time biggest wishlist items is better built in screens on these cameras. I know manufactures like Apple can pull this off largely due to volume and expertise, and it could really drive prices up to add a superb screen when only some users would find the price increase worth it.

But I would be one happy camper if these small form factor cameras helped us keep the size/weight down by invalidating the need for an external monitor. A flip out 5" ultra bright, super-high res touchscreen display with a great high bandwidth internal codec is one of the big "next steps" I see for these small body cameras.

The GH6 will do 8k. It will have super high res EVF too. It would be fun to see things better than with own eyes.

From the Micro 4/3 rumors site it sounds like we are getting a new camera in Spring 2018...

GH5s
- 12 Mpx sensor
- Significantly better low-light with ISO to 100K
- 10-bit 4K 60p recording
- 240 fps slow-motion
- Costs $500 more than the GH5

Camera to be announced on January 8th.

And that is an FT5 rumor - holy mother.

Internal 4K 10-bit 60p. Step it up, EVA1.

With a 12mp sensor the EVA will resolve a lot more detail, but with this new sensor the GH5 may come close in low light and DR... interesting times!

Internal 4K 10-bit 60p. Step it up, EVA1.

I wonder if the new lower resolution sensor is the key to getting 60p performance ?

The current GH5 and EVA1 are both downsampling from a higher resolution sensor to create their 4K image, where the GH5s appears to be a 1:1 pixel capture from the sensor. ( the final image will likely be lower resolution than a down-sampled image, but you give that up to obtain 4K 10-bit 60p and 240p HD slow-motion )

I was already planning on buying a second GH5, so I might get the GH5s instead.
