GH5 GH5s Image preview problem after recording

Hey gang,

my GH5s just arrived. Coming from the gh4, this is a great jump in terms of image quality. One odd thing is happening though, and I would have thought for sure it was due to something wonky in the menu setup, but i can't for the life of me figure this one out.

After I hit record once, and stop recording, the image on my lcd or EVF no longer response to a change in ISO, WB, shutter speed, etc... until I hit REC again, then the image jumps to its new settings.

Is this a common issue? Firmware? I'm on 1.0. Mucho gracias.

example of issue:

***update***

I can only recreate this issue some times, and not others. Sometimes it behaves like it's supposed to, other times, coming out of record, i can't see any image adjustments until i hit record again.

***another update***

According to a user on the facebook group, someone else is experiencing this with their gh5s. My guess is it's a firmware issue.

Just out of curiosity, have you tried different types of memory cards ?

Back in my GH2 days I experienced odd stuff like this that was almost always tied to wonky behaviour from some of my memory cards.

Hey Dingo! I just tried with multiple SD cards and experienced the same issue. Do you have a GH5s and not experience this?

This hasn't happened to me. I would do a system reset. But then there is a setting that is supposed to reflect your current exposure, I think it's preview or something like that. I don't have my GH5S in front of me right now.

Sorry, nope. I'm waiting for NAB 2018 to see if an upgraded DVX200 is announced. I shoot a fair bit of live event work, so a DVX200 with 10-bit internal recording would be a big plus for me. ( happy shooting with my GH5 otherwise, but having a GH5s in my kit would be handy too )

Yes, constant preview is on. Are there still Panny reps who frequent this forum from time to time?

Where do you have the select dial set ? If it is not on the Creative Movie mode then when you press record it will record based on what is set for movie mode and will not respond to changes that you make while you are recording if the dial is not in this position if the movie mode is actually set for P or automatic. You need to check what settings are for movie mode.

So, after taking my cam out for a little bit, I have noticed a few things. They are not repeatable, but I believe them to be firmware bugs. Sometimes the screen is brighter on preview than it is when I hit record. I am going to try a full system reset to see if that fixes it.

Hi Ron,

if by creative movie mode you mean the dial on the top right is on the icon with the camera and the M, then yes, that's selected.

I have noticed this too. Almost like a battery saving feature that i can't seem to find in the menu either. Have you experienced the issue I've described above? Trying to figure out if i need to return this thing.

Check what setting are for Monitor luminance in the menus. If it is set for auto or mode 1 that may be the reason you are seeing changes.Page 238 in the manual

Do you mean the camera icon with M OR the M ? It should be on the movie camera icon with M to shoot video. The M by it self is for stills. page 173 in the manual. This a good Lumix video explaining the differences https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KgdGoIDVoYg

lol yes I am on this mode :p

Ron, did you take a look at my video? You can see on my monitor that I'm on creative movie mode. Displays on the top left and you can also make out that dial on top of the cam.
