Hi,

My gh5s has the 1.2 firmware, can I update directly to version 2.0?
Do you think I can have problems with old cards and batteries compatibility?

Tks,
Ulisses

I did that just an hour ago from 1.2 to 2.0 on a GH5s.
Are you aware that it know shoots ProResRAW on a NinjaV?
I was short before selling the GH5s but know I am going to keep it :)

Yes

No.

One of the best changes in firmware 2.0 is the addition of masked aspect ratios in the viewfinder including 2.39:1. The feature is called Video Guide Line in the menu. Try it out! Before it was a faint dotted line that was impossible to use for quick, intuitive composition. There are many new aspect ratios, too, including vertical video for social media.

Great news, but I guess raw files have huge file sizes. Tks.

I have updated my GH5S and the Ninja V. File size is about twice that of ProRes 422. EDIUS sees the files as ProRes RAW and correctly identifies as VLog. Colour space of the file is VLog/V Gamut. So sort of a 12 bit Vlog file. EDIUS does not have any specific control for RAW but I expect there is more range on the controls in the PCC filter for corrections. Maybe we will get a BRAW version sometime.

ProRes RAW is a much more variable codec than ProRes 4:2:2.
It happens that the data rate of RAW is 50% higher but also 30% less
Same for the HQ flavours.

One of the handicaps is that you get the full controls only in FCPX
(which is no handicap for me..)

Could it help green screen jobs? The raw footage.

On a green screen job you should be in a controlled environment. I don't think that there's a big benefit of PRRAW if you light the scene properly. But I'm just a hobbyist with a business tax number :)

I have Gh5s and Ninja V updated to the latest firmware and as soon as I switch Gh5s HDMI DATA raw output [ON] I loose picture on Atomos and get No INPUT message, when I switch it of, picture on Atomos returns.
Any clue?

Did you register the Ninja and download the Raw key that Atomos requires?

Anyone With a GH5S and Ninja V try out shooting ProResRaw vs a Pocket 4k and Braw? I still much prefer how BMD handles ISO but do really miss having a good hybrid camera.

Guess no one has both.

On another note the S series cameras are now getting external BRAW support as well. What a fascinating time for DSLRs. Updates coming July 12th

Still sucks to have to use an external recorder in both cases. Cameras really need t start adding internal Braw and ProRes support. At the very least using an external USB-C SSD like the Pocket cameras. Although technically the P4k can record many flavors of Braw to SD cards.

Provided Red's patent isn't busted in the interim, we shouldn't be seeing that until...2028?

Maybe internal Braw, since it isn't true raw and seems to skirt the patent that way, but Blackmagic don't seem to be either willing or able to get it into many other manufacturers' cameras.
