GH4 Gh5 bug? TV output in progress - menu lockout

Hi everyone

I think I'm going crazy.... So hoping anyone can help me figure this out.

Recently bought gh5 and atomos ninja inferno. I connected everything up. Works flawlessly. No problems.

Then, when I was pressing the touchscreen to change something, I selected the playback button and the screen went black.... Then displayed 'TV output in progress'. So I go back into the menu and it spits me back out straight away to TV output in progress....

On the atomos it resets and then starts showing what 'should' be on the gh5 screen. When I try and select anything in the playback menu.... Nothing is selectable.

Now here's the thing..... It has output display off.... So it shouldn't show anything even when in playback.

When I take the hdmi out from this point the camera goes back to its normal state.... But for me to work with an external recorder... I put the hdmi back in and guess what pops up.

How the HELL do I sort this? Am I going crazy?

Regardless of clean hdmi out, when you press the playback button, the camera locks up. You can't access the menu and the atomos recorder goes crazy too...

100%. I should be able to access the camera menu when I have my atomos connected. When I press playback it's as if the gh5 thinks it's a TV. Thinking of calling Panasonic today to ask some questions.

I have the EXACT same problem when trying to play back a clip. My Small HD monitor works great with my GH5s, but when I try to play back a clip, I see the recorded clip for about 1 second, then the monitor screen changes to "No Signal" and the monitor on the back of the GH changes to "TV Output In Progress". At which point the entire thing is locked up. About 40% of the time the GH5 crashes and can't even power itself down, (even after pulling the HDMI plug and turning the power knob to OFF... The power light stays on and I have to pop the battery out. Help?

FYI:
I have tried all of the available options in the "TV Connection" menu item. I have no doubt that the resolution out of the GH5 is matched to the needed input resolutions of the Small HD.... I have swapped out cables, etc.

When you press playback on the GH5 aren't you telling it that there is a TV on the HDMI ? I think in this mode you are replacing the GH5 LCD with the Atomos screen. Purpose is to playback what is on the GH5 to the Atomos/TV. You lose the touch control but can play etc using the ring around the selection button. Has play/pause stop etc. If you do not do anything crazy pressing the play button again will return to GH5 LCD.

Of course you can access the menu with the Atomos connected but not in playback mode.

I just ran into the same issue. I was going through the menus, testing out HDMI Timecode with a MixPre 10T, and I got to a display menu and it flipped to black screen and "TV Output in Progress" and nomatter what I do, if I go to the menu section It goes to that screen. Did anyone figure out how to get out of it?

OK, I FOUND THE ANSWER TO THE PROBLEM.

I've had the exact same problem everyone else has listed here.... and I found a fix that is 100% repeatable.

Go To the Menu -> Wrench (not the wrench with the C) -> "TV Connection":

Now TURN OFF "Viera Link".

Problem solved.

Now when I go to play a video, I see the most recent video paused on the screen. It doesn't black out after a second.

Hit the top of the rear wheel (which is the play button), and now the video will begin to play and you will see the wheel controls in the lower right corner of the external monitor.

I looked up Viera and it is apparently a line of TV monitors for Panasonic. Might be that the Viera Link thing, when turned on, causes the GH% to hang trying to make some sort of connection.

My Panasonic Plasma is a little old to work I think but the link should work with newer Panasonic TV's that will then control playback via their remotes... I think !!!

Well, that is cool for people who own a Viera capable monitor, but for the rest of us, why is Viera Link ON by default? I never turned it on (I would never turn something on that I don't understand).

The issue of not being able to play back video on my GH5s has been an embarrassing problem since I've had clients request a review and I've been forced to pull the card and do the quick review on my notebook.

This should never have been a problem, Viera link should be OFF by default.
