GH5 Gh5 bug? freeze/delay on playback?

Just wanted to make sure I am not alone. I have two Gh5 cameras. When I press the playback button and a video is up, the camera freezes for about a minute or more before it is ready to play. After the first time, it does not delay again. But if I turn the camera off, and then back on and try again, it freezes/delays again. Not it has never truly frozen, but it will not let you do anything else while it is accessing the file. These are just quick clips, but long ones. I have firmware 2.1. I did not check for long before I updated to 2.1 so not sure if it is a firmware bug or if it was there before?? Also I have 4 identical Angelbird V90 cards, so surely that is not the problem.

I seemed to notice more of a delay when entering playback after updating firmware as well, but just a few seconds. I’m only shooting with the lower bit rate UHD with V30 cards.

Don’t be so sure about Angelbird, newadam. I purchased both the Angelbird 128GB v90 and Panasonic v90 SD cards, and while the camera has never frozen, when writing to the Angelbird, the camera has stopped because the card cannot keep up. This has only happened at 400Mbps, at lower bit rates, it functions fine. Angelbird guarantees their cards for three years and I’m still waiting for a reply since emailing them several days ago.

I am beginning to suspect it may be the Anglbird cards or some of them. Doing some trouble shooting now. They record fine at least as much as I have tested, but I need to be able to check videos without having to wait for minutes between takes. I may be returning the last three cards. I bought the first one a few months ago, so it may have to be a warranty issue if the dealer will not work with me. I do have an older Lexar card which seems to be fine even at 400mbps.

My Angelbird stuttered on playback as well. I'm hoping they respond by tomorrow afternoon...

I just heard back from Angelbird this evening. They asked for the numbers on the back of the SD card and under what circumstances the card fails. I'll keep you posted...

Ok, trying to test out the cards to see if it is all cards or just one or two. But seems to be some problems between the card and the camera in some way. I will likely return the last three cards. Has anyone used the Hoodman UHS-II 2000x cards which they say are V90 rate? They are the same price as the Angelbird ($199). I have an upcoming project and need solid cards I can trust. I know some older cards work, but it seems inconsistent.

I really think this will probably be resolved with a firmware update (or could be resolved), but I cannot wait to find out with $800 worth of cards.

Angelbird just replied:

thanks for the image and details on the failure. If you want to replace your card you can do this directly with us. If you give us your postal address including phone number we can arrange a shipment of a new 128GB card as soon as we have stock again, which will be in ~2 weeks.

After some more testing, I may just have one bad card. I reformatted all the cards and set the two cameras to record a movie playing on the computer screen for action and stress. I have filled the cards up recording and stopping for short clips and long clips, and played back several times. It appears I have problems on just ones card. I will keep repeating this test with the three apparent good cards for the day to confirm.

At 400mb 4K - Playback on both of my Delkin v60 cards, in camera, are at times choppy. Regardless of slot. Other times they are not. I havent been able to isolate this issue to any particular set of rules although I suspect it is after the camera has been on for a while and is hot.

Worth mentioning - I've had problems with recording 400MB 4K when the battery is down to 1 bar, rarely a problem at 3 bars.

Just to confirm I had one bad card. Spoke with Angelbird, and they were good to work with. They offered to replace the cards. Because of upcoming travel, I chose to return the card to where I bought it. Unfortunately, the cards are out fo stock everywhere, so trying to find another card that works.
