GH5 Available for Pre-Order at $2k, amazing features.

I wish this cam had the look and texture of the hacked gh2s

I shot with two hacked GH2 cameras for about two years, and while they were better than most of their competitors at the time, they had...

- Dynamic-range between 7-8 F-stops depending on your profile and settings

- Terrible high ISO noise ( I normally tried to shoot at 400 ISO or lower because of how bad the high ISO noise was )

- High ISO color that lent toward orangy-rust ( it was usable at 800 ISO and lower, but above this it was bad )

- A battery that died around the 90 minute point ( not terrible, but nothing like the GH4 / GH5 cameras )

...It was definitely better than my Canon 60D camera ( which I sold two months after buying my first GH2 ), but I can't see how anyone would choose a hacked GH2 over a GH4 or GH5 ???

Same here. I have both, and I'm while I'm still quite surprised with how good the GH2 is for a 7 year old camera, but the GH4 is better in pretty much every way.

Danilo, you've served your GH5 community well...I think you can retire now, lol.
Thanks a lot! Now that GH5 is available, it's more simple to find new footage and also "some good footage" coming from GH5. It was pretty hard to find all the footage that I've provided. I think it's a great camera for the price, but I still wait NAB to take a decision on purchase, and some time to make a transition from my old Hpx170. Thanks for your kind words of appreciation! :-)

Actually, the point taken from this last link provided by Danilo has its merit. 4/3" format size, if not properly lensed coupled to limited DR, will be able to rather offer a videoish look. For some reason the Australian shooter of that promo video has chosen the best glass Leica has to offer to the Japanese brand; no zooms, no standard/normal lens, nada of that kind nor an army of glass... only two primes: 12mm f/1.4 and 42.5mm f/1.2.

I guess it wouldn't be so politically correct to have used a Speedbooster and Sigma glass, as for instance... LOL

Nice to check your posts over here, Danilo!

Un abbraccio forte,
Emanuel

PS: BTW, one of these days, Joe* asked for you :-)

I think Panasonic has a winner here. For its price the GH5 really has a lot to offer. For everything below major release movies or commercials the quality of the "Photography Across Borders" piece is there and does not need to be much better. That short film could have been made with other cameras but the point is that it was made with the GH5 and the skin tones were very nice.
