GH5 Available for Pre-Order at $2k, amazing features.

How can you get the same exact shot, with the same action (guy walking through on the right smoking) in the same exact position with two cameras? If the cameras are side by side the shot is off to one side either way. If they're stacked, one is higher than the other. Maybe the distance is enough that you don't actually see it, but it makes me skeptical.

I'm referring to the GH4/GH5 comparison with the fountains.

Just to add, that Chris and Jordan (The Camera Store) recreate the Joe Pesci "How am I funny? Do I amuse you?" restaurant scene from "Goodfellas". Not suitable for work due to the language - one may have to turn the sound down - but with pretty darn good IQ. The LUT applied in post almost emulates the original look to a tee.

also mentioned, VLOG native ISO is 400.
seems like sensor performs similar to gh4

I so appreciate that those guys went through so much effort for a cool camera test. FWIW, I think they did a great job with the production design and lighting, the DP/Director seemed like a talented guy and the actors, the guys who do the normal Camera Store videos were good. The end result, to me, looks like clean, contrasty video with a nice film look applied. Definitely good enough for a web spoof, web content but it doesn't really have much of the texture and feel of the 35mm Scorsese shot with Ballhaus, how could it? Digital video from an M43 consumer camera versus 35mm film. But it's a fun test, they did it well, it's entertaining and it makes the GH5 look good. I think the grade went a bit too contrasty, you see nothing in the blacks at all, I would have liked to have seen more shadow detail, even if it was all murky.

I agree. Panasonic has made a nice step forward with the GH5. Each generation rights wrongs and adds functionality. But I am not a fan of crushed blacks. That is what I see with this end result, not so much a "filmic" look. This is the grade, not the camera though.

They planned to use a smoke machine but it set off the fire alarm, so they nixed it. Smoke in the air would have lifted the blacks, just like it did in the real "Goodfellas". I think the difference between the original and this recreation is not so much the grade, but the lighting itself.

The GH5 version uses big soft lights fairly close to the actors. The original is using hard lights from farther away, and the effect is different. The original simply has more light hitting the actors, and Pesci's suit is shiny gray and not black, so the shadows don't look crushed as they do in the GH5 version where he's wearing a dark black suit. And, the original had the budget to light the background and have extras. It doesn't look as contrasty because the background doesn't fall off to black!

Hard lights, more back light, smoke to lift the shadows...this would have made it look more like the original.
