Never had a problem shooting 180 before but today at a commercial shoot the 2nd clip went haywire and it only got worse from there

https://vimeo.com/251772801

I've included the 1st shot and added stills from some of the other shots so it's clearer whats going on. - pretty weird!

I think it's going back to pana for checking

sandisk extreme pro v30 - dont think that it. I'll test the amera in the morning with some dofferent lenses to see if I can ecreate the problem but I'm concerned about taking it on a job now

Of course a good card in working condition will work. But cards do go bad. They are the most fragile link in the chain, and the easiest part to test and change. If it's the card, that sucks. If it's not the card, then that *really* sucks.

I certainly format in camera before each shoot and this was a very new card (they only recently classified them as V30 as I understand) my older cards don't have the v30 insignia on them.

at the time the error showed clearly on the EVF and screen - I unplugged the HDMI cable on the off chance that was the problem but the screen still showed the error

I tested the morning and can't recreate the problem - same settings, same EVF out on the HDMI - so that's the worst possible outcome. - I just have to be wary and if it happens again I'll try different settings to try and eliminate the problem.

I cant shoot 120 - my options are 180, 150, 100 etc PAL

gh5 firmware is current

Supposedly they tweaked 'stability' for the variable speed mode with one of the updates..

You can switch to NTSC mode to get the 120 - I think the lower overhead stress for 120 will likely avoid the problem as well.

Sorry, that sucks. If you're under warranty, I would send it in the first time you can spare it.

You can switch system frequency to get 120 fps. If that's too much bother, shoot 100fps unless you need the extra speed.

It's still under warranty but since I can't recreate the problem - I didn't think there was much point

What you experienced shouldn't happen. You have footage to prove it did. Send it in. Let Panasonic figure out what to do to make it right. They'll likely replace the entire main board to be safe.

Just in case you don't have the info.

I've seen this type of issue before. It seems to be provoked by clipping highlights and a lot of movement combined together, which seems to throw the LongGOP recording for a loop.

See if you can provoke it when recording All-I instead.

Cheers,

Paul :)

I had similar results last month. With dropouts occurring every five frames. I thought it was because I had a monitor plugged into hdmi port, because it was at times flickering and losing connection. I haven't shot slomo since, but my theory is that it's happening because of the external monitor being plugged in.

Hi Paul, I definitely had both so I'll try to recreate it - The big thing for me it to find out what is was and how to get around it on location - your suggestion may well be it.
