GH4 GH4 V-log?

GH4R... The R stands for Retro. This new camera version will only shoot standard definition black and white footage.

You are spot on - anything really new must be called X or XX. Maybe AX or XA. Have heard rumors though it will have an Orwo 16mm reversal mode - the good old "has more grain than a hailstorm" aesthtic. Love it already, will buy two.

well, the GH4 is now selling for $100 off at 1398 at B&H so to me the writing is on the wall, new camera tomorrow... sad world

If there's not an upgrade path for GH4 users I'm out of the LUMIX game. Super sad that a company went from inspiring so much good will from me to, in one year, making me really, really disenfranchised with them. Their handling of V-LOG L has been horrible, the whole thing stinks. I'm not going to jump ship right away, but they're not getting any further cash from me. To string users a long, keep them loyal with the promise of something they never intended to release to the camera... I don't know. I'm very irritated, and will be checking out on Tuesday if it's going down how I sense it's going down.

I depart for an international film shoot on the 2nd of October. I've done all my GH4 tests and am prepared with my gear as it is now, but if a LOG profile suddenly appears I'd love to use it (shooting mostly external architecture so a high dynamic range is desirable).
My concern is that it might be risky to shoot LOG without have done any tests beforehand. (I won't be able to reshoot; I'll be traveling.) I've not shot LOG on any other camera. Am I being paranoid? Does something like a LOG profile need a lot of testing? Or should I just stick with the profiles I know and have tested extensively?

Any thoughts and experiences shooting with LOG would be appreciated.

If LOG came to the GH4 the day before a big important shoot started? I don't know, i'd probably hold off. Exposing for V-LOG L (provided it is available to existing GH4 owners) would take some time to learn, and I'd never learn a new profile on a paying job. My two cents...

I think/hope the R designation refers to what's in the box so retailers can identify which variant of GH4 they are stocking. The rest of us will get V-log in firmware.

That was to be expected. From a marketing/customer experience POV it's a horrible decision but I guess not a huge deal for those who need it.

Or it could be click bait just to get something up there for people to read. The rumor basically states you will need to pay for log, and each new firmware will be encoded for your serial number.

seems the "R" stands for "Rumormonger".

That's a BIG 10-4

Hey the GH4 is what it is folks... Even if it gets some form of log, it still has a few shortcomings which Panasonic has never addressed.

Pay for a log profile?

I would rather put that money toward a camera without timecode issues and HDMI lag. But that's just me. I know there are a boatload of folks here that could care less about timecode, and have eyes young enough to shoot everything through the built in monitor.

Hey, I just read that I started a rumor that I heard that the new V-Log will be free AND give us 13 stops DR!

It would be cool if r was for revision, a new more powerful processor in the gh4 body to; wait a minute I've said this already.
