GH4 GH4 V-log?

One who would consider buying the AF100 successor would do so for a heck of a lot more reasons than just V-log. Its really about the form factor and having a professionally built camera. Its about having the right controls at your fingers tips and not needing special accessories to plug things into the camera like audio or power. Its really an entirely different league of camera to a DSLR.

would Panasonic REALLY want to drive GH4 buyers to a camera twice as expensive? I bought the newest, best, yet bottom feeding 4K camera because it is 4K I could afford it. I can't afford an AF100, nor would I even consider that to upgrade away from my GH4. Are GH4 buyers really wanting to spend a lot more money? I assumed we bought a cheap 4K, because it WAS affordable and 4K. I was looking at the BM4K as well, but it would have cost a lot more in the end with less features, so the price and feature set of GH4 won me over.

I don't speak for everyone, but maybe some... I have no interest or need to upgrade up from a camera that is almost comparable to the Alexa.
Giving us VLOG would be nice, but NOT giving it to us and putting on an upper scale product, won't make me jump ship. My ship has barely left the doc let alone sailed any deep oceans yet. :)

I'd consider an AF100 successor if I felt it was going to give me features/results worth the extra price, sure... It would have to be a lot better than the AF100 in terms of form-factor, though; i was never a fan of that. If we're just talking GH4 + YAGH performance in a differently shaped case for $5000-6000, no, not going to be interested.

O
f course, I'd be able to justify the purchase against business revenue, so it would depend on the final price of the gear. I was on the fence deciding between the Sony FS7 and the GH4; while we could have bought the FS7, we weren't sure how quickly it could pay for itself.

(The same purchasing logic applies to the YAGH + Shogun/Q7/Etc solution for the GH4; we'll never do that. We'll just buy an FS7 or equivalent for nearly the same $$$).

I have just started shooting properly with the GH4; I got it to do corporate-style work because it has 4K in a small size, with a decent internal data-rate and most of the features I needed, with nothing clearly removed for marketing reasons. I'm happy that Pansonic is providing me with a usable product, but I would never get a "pro" model instead. For me the size factor especially, the fact that it looks like a consumer compact, is important.

What I'd like on a GH4 update and GH5: F means firmware, E external, H means hardware.

F- Load/Save settings to a card
F- An AF-C setting that doesn't hunt for interview-type stuff.
F- Internal Raws so one doesn't *need* to do a wb for quick 3 min location shoots.
F- real tone curve editor instead of that shadow/highlight thingy. Or just loadable curves.

H- A bigger touchscreen LCD as I'm over 50.

E- 2 channel wireless microphone via bluetooth or wifi so one doesn't need an external recorder, 3 sets of batteries and $1000 of wireless mics.
E- An improved app for remote viewfinder and controller on an iPad, or iPhone so one can clip an iPhone on the hot shoe as monitor/focus picker

At the end of this article the EOSHD guy is again hinting at a significant upgrade - enough to make people hesitate before moving to something like the C100.

I think Pansonic is still hesitating about how much of the potential update package to provide now, and what to hold over for another model. It's a pity really, because Panasonic is bleeding upmarket users daily to Sony and Canon, and also Samsung is a direct competitor gunning for precisely the same niche.

I saw that comment from Andrew reid
Yep agreed...Panasonic should just go for it, the competition is heating up and the market share will get smaller as more players enter, the GH2
was without serious competition in the price range, not so with the GH4.

Anyway here is another hint at an upgrade also...from Nick Driftwood in reply to a comment I made on Vimeo...

I am quite sure there will be something more for the GH4 soon that won't require a hack :-)

Bleeding? Given to exaggerating much? Yes there is competition but let's not go all drama. Perhaps post some reliable sources for this mass exodus.

GH4 is still in the game. but many will always have that infinite upgrade path: getting the next better thing. Heck, even older DSLRs are still in the game too.

when many started to 'jump ship' to the Sony A7s and Samsung NX1. Plus pro cameras like the F7s and now C300 mkii around.

I upgraded from my GH4 to the A7s, primarily due to the low light performance and funky colors and dynamic range. I do miss the GH4's controls, 4K and articulating screen, though.
The FS7 will be my next camera!
