GH4 GH4 V-log?

But really though....Is there any real word on this?

Nope. All rumour-mill speculation, with minor signs and teasing from those that supposedly know something.

To be quite frank, it's all rather annoying. I've lost interest. Gonna throw my GH4 and A7s up for sale any day now. My BMPCC is plenty.

there's a pic form a blog from months ago showing a Japanese GH-4 beta or prototype, with the LCD displaying a very flat image of a girl and "V-LOG" in the upper corner, which is where this all began, if I recall

Yeah, V-Log on the GH4 is real and has been shown to people. Whether it'll be in the next firmware or not, or any firmware for that matter, is all speculation at this point.

Yeah, that's what I meant. I know V-Log exists for the GH4, but the possibility of getting it released for the GH4 is the speculative part.

I expect it will happen soon, but it might be something that gets released just before NAB this year. ( for some reason Andrew Reid thinks the next update is going to be a very big deal, so who knows )

My guess is Panasonic will release firmware updates when it makes business sense to do so. That is how you extend the life/sales of a product until the next camera (GH5?) becomes available.

Different batches of sensors can be very different in their noisiness.

Edmund

Yep...I feel that has to be true, some say otherwise, but my experiences with noise are minimal, and I have read on other forums where some users have said "where is this noise that some are talking about?"...yet others have a problem.
So it cant be all settings based...or exposure based, it has to be that the sensors vary in some way.
I was just looking at a whole bunch of vids I shot on the 20mm Pancake at night, nice and clean.
One thing tho...I avoid the + 15 Master Pedestal settings and also the -5 everything Cine D settings...to me they just screw up the cameras look and add noise somehow.
Personally I am not a fan of the colors of Cine D either, I prefer Natural or Portrait by miles (especially in skintones) but others obviously have different views.
All that aside tho,, I have no real noise problems, its a pity no one has done a GH4 sensor comparison with a so calld noisy camera to a non noisy one.

I agree its annoying!! but I dont think when Illya said he knows of the actual release date for V-Log that he was making it up, or basing that on a rumour.
I think its definitely real, He wouldn't come on this forum and say clearly that V -Log will be in an upcoming firmware update and he knows the release date unless he knew that its 100% true.
But nonetheless its still annoying...its so 80s...all the NDA crap.
$###%@ Panasonic should just open source at least part of the firmware and allow 3rd party developers to write apps and parts of the firmware...
before Samsung boots them in the guts and takes over that part of the market LOL!!
BTW Nice looking footage you shot on the 7D!!! Excellent work!

This is what happens when companies do tip their hands early on planned releases. People just get upset anyway because it isn't released yet. Those same people would likely be upset if it was released and it was buggy or didn't work correctly.

My strategy is to pretend it isn't there until it actually is there. I can't do anything about it until that time happens so I see no point getting all worked up over it. The GH4 is just as amazing without V-log as it was when it first came out. Heck the GH3 and GH2 are still amazing as well. Go out and have fun shooting and only worry about integrating a V-log workflow when it actually is released. Until then you really have nothing to worry about except for where the next project is coming from.

zactly. I bought this camera AS IS, not as hoping will be soon. Works great NOW... extra free bells and whistles is just really, really nice.

I have good memories of grading Canon C-log and currently love grading the BMPCC film look so v-log is something I am looking forward to on the GH4. Currently matching Gh4 Cinelike D and the BMPCC is not efficient.

I hope this speculation of a soon to be released firmware is true - I saw the video showing v-log on a demo gh4 before Christmas so it's real ok. I just hope Panny haven't decided to hold it back.

I was thinking, given the rumoured AF101 successor, perhaps Panasonic is worried that a really good firmware boost to the GH4 would result in less people purchasing the AF101 successor...?

Maybe the rumours, the video showing V-Log on the GH4, all that, maybe it was just Panasonic experimenting?

Of the two, those rumored specs for the AF100 successor are the harder to swallow. I'd think anything that sells more GH4s would be on the table. Plus, I really want a 4K 4:3 mode for anamorphic shooting with 24fps and an enabled HDMI port to monitor and possibly record it externally.

Can't see what shooting V-log on the GH4 will get you other than destroying the color data and a lot of extra work in post. But hey seems like everyone is screaming for it so to each their own.

This feature are for those who know what they're dong. I guess some people just like to bake-in color profiles and lower DR.

I agree.

Also, my fault for not saying it, but what I meant was for existing GH4 owners that Panasonic is hoping to attract towards purchasing the AF100 successor. I feel as though if they release the supposed GH4 firmware update, it might push existing GH4 owners away from buying the AF100 successor, as they won't see it as a big enough jump in quality to invest in. However, if the rumoured specs of the AF100 successor hold true, I guess no GH4 firmware update will sway people away from purchasing - those rumoured specs are pretty phenomenal...

Things I would expect to see in an AF100 successor...

- Potentially Better DR
- Potentially Better Internal CODECs
- Multi-Aspect Sensor ( S35 and m43 )
- SDI video ports
- Professional XLR audio
- Multiple Audio Tracks ( 4 tracks or more )
- Dual Memory Card Slots
- Built-in Waveform Display
- Heavier Body Build

Even if the DR and CODECs were the same as the GH4, this camera would still sell quite well if it was priced accordingly.
