GH4 GH4 V-Log FREE !!

Panasonic has responded, will push out a new firmware
Many thanks to those who have recently purchased the LUMIX GH4 V-Log L upgrade. We are aware of an oversight in our Panasonic Image App which allows enabling of V-Log L as a “custom” setting without purchase. This was not our intent, and our apologies for the oversight.

We appreciate the many messages of support for the continuing development of innovative new products and features, and Panasonic intends to stand behind your investment in V-Log L and the LUMIX GH4. Therefore, it’s important to know that future LUMIX GH4 firmware upgrades, including mobile app upgrade pushes, will disable unlicensed activations of V-Log L. In addition, it’s Panasonic’s service policy to upgrade firmware during warranty claims, thereby eliminating unlicensed features. Thank you again for your continued support of Panasonic and the LUMIX G camera system and innovations yet to come.

NOTE

A new firmware V2.4 will be available starting Sept 17th. Use of the V-Log L workaround associated with firmware Version 2.3 runs the risk of the Zebra Function not working and the Histogram reading improperly.

Hopefully this means they'll optimize the Histrogram & allow lower IRE Zebras, issues that should have been addressed in the update in the first place. Otherwise WTF are they talking about?

If people continue to use V-Log without paying for it, then it is stealing, regardless of how much lipstick you place on the pig to justify your actions.
Sorry, but we will have to agree to disagree.
Inagine this, you are a new owner of a GH4 and you know nothing about the vlog paid upgrade. You scroll (in the app) through the picture profiles and you see vlog. Will you write to Panasonic to ask them to send you an invoice?

They are trying to scare people with the phrase "runs the risk" out of using a free Vlog.

If you don't own the license and use it to make $$$, you are breaking the law. No different than using unlicensed music in a product that makes $$$.

Still trying to apply the lipstick......
Na. Applying a LUT to the Vlog and still think it's worthless internally. If you want to use Vlog on the Gh4, buy a recorder. Just as you will think as you think, I'll do as I want. Again... I didn't steal a thing. I used a FW off THIER website and used an APP that THEY released.

And to ALL of those that are claiming using the Vlog unlock workaround of yesterday is evil, DON'T even test it on your camera. EVEN if you paid for it. Otherwise, you're just being self righteous.

Not self-righteous. I paid for it, I was curious, I'm not canceling my pre-order. :)

That is patently false. I know of no terms of use or other contract that users are violating by using publicly available features of publicly available hardware/software. This did not even require a hack. This is how Panasonic delivered the product. The onus is on the manufacturer to protect a feature that they want to limit.

If i bought a car that was supposed to be limited to 100HP, but Ford forgot to put on the limiter and I got 150HP, is it my responsibility to not use the extra horsepower? Nay.

I say this as a paying customer, and someone who accepts that Panasonic has every right to charge for this feature. They screwed-up. This is actually the last link in a long line of screw-ups with this feature. It's almost karmic.

Chris,

Did you test V-LOG L on downscaled UHD or 4K? I imagine so, but seems none of the testers have specified this part of their workflow yet.

Thanks,
Bern

I've tested internal vrs external 10Bit.
Just applying Pannys Varicam LUT and Alexa LUT.
4k timelines and out to 4k master and 1080 master

Internal is garbage. Most smooth greys show this magenta pink garbage. Useless.
10Bit is what the VLOG is for. Works fine. No magenta or pink. Still bands though in certain situations.

Do this. Film a candle in a glass like this. Internal and external. then you will see why the internal is not holding up well.
