GH4 gh4 speedbooster

I saw a chart test of this adapter, I think done by same guys behind that video, cheesycam, and its soft on the edges. I was in the same boat before and wanted a cheap solution but further research shows that this adapter is not good with wides and certain lenses.
A side by side test with metabones just blew it away.
To be able to maximize the benefits of 4k resolution, especially in wide landscapes and architecture shots I just decided not to compromise and invested in the metabones SB. Sharp edge to edge and no CA in the image.

I got the mitikon one for my canon lenses and it works fine. metabones was not out yet, so I was up and running with the cheaper one. Has some drawbacks (edges, color), but does widen shots, and increase light. I'll probably add the metabones after a while

...I own both the Metabones Nikon G SpeedBooster and the Mitakon Zhongyi Nikon F SpeedBooster, but I haven't had a chance to do a side by side test yet.

I've used the Mitakon on a few commercial video shoots and it worked well without any problems. Images appeared to be sharp right across the frame, provided the lens itself was sharp. ( my Nikon 50mm f/1.4 like most SLR/DSLR 50s is soft at full aperture, but cleans up quite well when closed down one F-stop )

Mechanically the MetaBones is better built, and probably optically better too, but the Mitakon adapter is still very usable for video work.

yeah i thought so because the price, but yeah I cant decide between the Nikon / Canon Version.

I got the nikon mount for the BMCC which gives a smaller crop than the standard SB for m4/3. Gives me a 1.28 crop instead of 1.5 but this has a trade off that I can only use electronic shutter which is fine since I mostly shoot video.
There is currently no canon version for BMCC SB.

With the canon mount to m4/3 SB now available, you might consider that over the nikon since you can always adapt a nikon lens to a canon mount but not the other way around.

I have the mitakon/ zhongyi nikon to m43 adaptor. I'm not that happy with it though. I can't really put my finger on what the problem is, but the iq just doesn't satisfy me. Wish I'd gone for the metabones.

I tested both the Lens Turbo and the Speed Booster side by side on the same lenses - mostly Rokinon Cine's - and whatever differences there are were mostly academic. Realistically, the Metabones was $400 more expensive for the aperture control (which i don't need) and the lens support. I used the difference to get another lens.

that's cool to hear Joe. what I ran into is extra abberations when my lens was set to f1.4 .... BUT that lens gets "soft" anyway, so the Lens Turbo just exaggerated it. My suspicion is the Speed Booster would do exactly the same thing - maybe a lil cleaner at it, but not enough that a viewing audience would ever notice.

either one, these are handy lil tools
