GH4 GH4 shipping in the US now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm wondering if all the USA cameras landed in California & are being shipped across the country via ground transportation. Would explain why LA had them first & the next batch is showing up in Texas, while NYC is still waiting.
This is an utterly neutral comment here, and simply factual: the two major NYC dealers (and maybe more) are largely Orthodox Jewish and they were shut down completely for Passover, so all the inevitable administrative arrangements necessary for imminent shipping and then fulfillment from Panasonic got deferred by a week or two. That's why I canceled my pre-order with Adorama, and my GH4 is en route from Texas Media Systems.

Spot on. I ordered with Adorama because they have done a stellar job for us in the past. Matching and beating competitor prices etc... When our first (and I stress first) GH4 arrives, it will be a joy. Until then, everyone should just calm down. I really don't understand all the fuss about pre-orders. It is not as if everyone has these in stock currently. It is brand spanking new, and there was not delivery date attached to your order. You get it when you get it!

As a proud owner of 3 GH3s, I can't wait to add a GH4 to our arsenal. Panny has futher solidified our investment in m43 lenses.

I got mine yesterday. I ordered from Hot Rod Cameras and they were helpful throughout the whole process. I originally ordered both the body and the add-on block, but after considering new information (like the fact that 4K 10-bit 4:2:2 was available from the body's HDMI output) I corrected my pre-order with them, and they were totally amenable to the proposition.

Here's a gratuitous shot of my new GH Family.

A family of serious cameras photographed by an iPhone. Irony, no?

Good choice, kicking the YAGH out of your order. As widely reported, the Atomos Shogun 4k recorder won't even take the YAGH interface, and you're back to the body's HDMI output port anyway. No less, you would have had to clump on a battery brick for the YAGH in addition to the GH4's independent battery.

Couldn't you use the full size hdmi out of the YAGH interface for the Atomos?

My Gh4 landed. Wow Panasonic. Great job building a camera that makes a great image and with lots of controls for video mode. I also have the Sony AX100 which serves a different purpose and takes great images as well, but the Gh4 with it's image controls is just a solid camera. I also have the BMC4K which its looking as if it's going to be collecting some dust. I think it will only be pulled out for shots that need global shutter and if there is enough light to shoot with the darn thing. 4K rules. Coming from a stills background it's nice to have the resolution I'm accustomed too.

Quite amazing what Panasonic has packed into this small discrete camera package. This camera is going to sell like hot cakes!!!!!!

Thanks for your comments.

I'm just waiting for you early adopters to give us holdouts a big thumbs up on the cam.

cheers

Christopher, nice to know. Would you mind to present the first 4K GH4 vs BMPC shootout? There is one on Youtube but very likely fake... It would be rather useful, thanks (E :-)

I wish I had the time to set them all up. Maybe I could swing by the Planes of Fame where I did a BMC4K v AX100 comparison and just add in the Gh4.

But I'll speak on the sub $3K 4K's a bit.

I think the Gh4 is the strongest camera out of the Gh4, AX100, BMC4k. It just has the options built in. Actually, I rate the BMC4K dead last in the comparison. They only thing the BMC4K has going for it is the codec and the global shutter. But where it fails is the FPN and the dead pixels. Obviously the BMC4k is topped out at 400 ISO as well. It's gonna be real hard to pick up the BMC4K lately and the only reason I would is for S35 and the global shutter. The AX100 is no slouch. It's a good all in one 4K camera with a really nice detailed image (I actually resharpen it in post). The built in ND.s and having zebras really help with this camera. The lens is just awesome on the AX100 as well as the built in microphone. But the camera only has 2 color profiles (standard and Cinematone) and you can change the hue of the color. But I would say that the AX100 captures 11 stops DR. Its really a good camera to carry around at all times if you see something you want in 4K. It has some rolling shutter, but so does the Gh4 in 4K mode (the Gh4 is only slightly better at RS than the AX100 is).

Now the Gh4 wins out of them all (To me) because the image controls and the size of the camera itself. The 4K image is clean clean clean. Actually, out of the three cameras it's the only "true" 4k camera as the others are UHD. But I think Panny knocked it out of the park with this camera. They really catered to the motion shooter. Pound for pound and dollar for dollar, the Gh4 easily is the better camera of all three. It will be really nice when Atomos releases the Shogun for this camera.

I'm pretty much done with the BMD experiments. The failure in the BMC4K to complete the camera while releasing 3 more cameras at NAB has written their legacy in stone for me. I'm now looking for Canon to get more into the 4K game at affordable prices but until then the Gh4 (and the AX100) will serve what I need in 4K capture.

This video made me poop a gh4 in my pants!

Thanks again for posting your comments on the GH4.

I wonder which lens they used for that aerial demo.

That looked ridiculous.

ETA just saw that the YouTube description says Olympus Zuiko 12mm lens.

Thanks for your thoughts. Much appreciated and useful indeed :-)

If you'll have time for the comparison shootout, we'll be here for listening your findings.

E :-)

PS: Impressive your findings, thank you Christopher for sharing!

- Thomas is clearly fond of (or employed by) Adorama. But the fact is, they didn't deliver, and their customer service is lacking (they refuse to discuss detailed order status, and merely boilerplate early-May generality).....

As far as I am aware, Thomas is NOT employed by Adorama - but I am.....

Adorama Camera is a retailer, not a manufacturer; we receive our shipments from one of the manufacturer's distributors in the US. So this is how it works……

We place an order with the distributor for a number of units, based on experience, that we believe we will be able to sell within the first few weeks. The distributor advises the manufacturer, who - when they have sufficient pre-orders to make it worthwhile - will ship to a fulfillment center locally. The fulfillment center is responsible for worldwide distribution.
Bearing in mind that as a retailer we are at the mercy of the manufacturer to produce sufficient units (and they in turn can only do so when they have all the component parts available), the fulfillment center to organize the allocation of the units they receive to distributors; the shipping companies, the weather, the import and export authorities, the distributors within the US, the weather (again), is it any wonder that the poor girl trying to give you an email response has absolutely no idea exactly which date Adorama will be able to fulfil an order?

Oh, and I forgot to add; it is rare with any new release that we get an ETA for any incoming shipment, nor do we know how many units will even be in that shipment until the guys in our warehouse unload the trucks! As far as I am aware, Thomas is NOT employed by Adorama - but I am.....
