GH4 GH4 SD Cards

I have a Komputerbay 128GB card in my GH4 which I just picked up on Tuesday. I have tried all of the most demanding record rates without issue so far including 4K, 1080 @ 200Mbps...etc...

All good so far

In my basic testing with the same card at 4K 23.976, 4K 24p, 1080/200 23.976, 1080/100 96, so far so good. I'll push it this weekend to get a better idea.

Hi people, just join this forum, I got my GH4 with the Transcend 128gb 95/60 speed, also waiting for the PNY Elite 256GB coming in a few day to test if it could handle the 4k video shoot for my long trip!

Hey folks, I'm not sure I'd trust it for a paid gig but I just recorded a 25min long UHD 4K 23.98fps clip on a SanDisk Ultra 30MB/s 32 GB card without issues. Sorry I don't have time to do more tests. There wasn't much movement in the shot and it'd be like shooting an interview. Might be cutting it close with the speed but nice to know that if you have no other choice, it might work. Again, not sure I'd be comfortable relying on it for a real job but very interesting nonetheless...

Since the GH4's advertised bitrates seem to be absolute maximums, it would be useful for people to post the actual bitrates of the files they record on various cards, in addition to the mode and framerate. Or, to test the cards with a high-detail, high-motion scene, to try to max the bitrate out.

When I set about to try and push Lee Powells excellent Flow Motion 2.0 GH2 hack to it's 100 Mbps 1080 24p maximum bit-rate, the only way I was able to get close to this bit-rate was to videotape a continuous loop of the free FutureMark 3DMark2001se "Nature Scene" benchmark running at 400+ fps on a 1080 monitor, which was limited by the refresh rate of my computer monitor, but it got me pretty close to the 100 Mbps maximum. I used this as a test to see which SDHC/SDXC cards would lock-up after filming this repeating loop for 60 minutes. ( Sandisk Extreme 95MB/sec cards had no problems, as did my Patriot EP cards, but many others just froze up completely and I ended up giving those ones away to friends and family )

This is where I would start if you want to see if you can push the CODECs to their maximum bitrates.

I just had massive lockups/ write errors with a Transcend 60G R95 w60 Card (clean re- format) while shooting a sports event outdoors. Did not have this issues before i did firmware update to v2
