Any SD card recommendations for the GH4 when shooting 1080p 100 Mbps at 60fps? Not doing 4K because we need the higher frame rate.

Thanks!

Try your existing class 10 cards they very well might work. The hard part comes when you do 200Mbps with a complex scene. I've been using them and so far they work just fine for 4K and 1080p 100Mbps at any frame rate.

Yes, plenty of discussion on this, just use the handy search function.

Here are a few examples to get you started: GH4 U3 cards, Getting the right U3 card.

If you need more information, I wrote a couple blog posts on memory cards for the GH4, including speed tests and benchmarks of various cards.

It makes no sense not buying the GH4 U3 cards since prices are so low. I just purchased the 64GB Transcend UHS-1 U3 SDXC card for $35.95 from B&H .

My SanDisk SDXC 64GB UHS-I Extreme Pro 95MB/s cards work flawlessly. I have also benchmarked them and they hold a continuous 60MB/s record rate, which is more than enough for all the bitrates the GH4 can muster :)

HTH!

Cheers from Tokyo,

Paul :)

Gh4 recording speed is 200mbos/100mbps in 4k which is not as same as what shown on sd card (they uses Mb/s) so once you do the math it is about 25Mb/s write speed is the minimum requirement. So anything that writes about 45Mb/s should work. But since u3 cards are cheap now, go with those. I have multiple of u1 and u3 cars, no issue.

Ended up going with some SD cards the DP had, Transcend 32GB Class 10 SDHC cards, 300x and 600x. The 600x worked great, no problems at all. The 300x had trouble at 200 Mbps (shooting at 60p) so we had to go down to 100 Mbps, after performing fine at 200 Mbps for a good hour. Except for that hiccup, no problems.

I ran some tests with an even slower card, a regular SDHC Class 10 Transcend, this time at 4K. No problems at all...

Make from that what you will. Perhaps the need for high performance cards is hype...or else we just got lucky.
