Just wanted to share with you guys my friends short test film. He was doing low light testings of the GH4, and also different practical and in camera effects. In my opinion it looks amazing for multiple reasons. One of them being the fact that, it really shows that it all comes down to person behind the camera and his skill set whether utilizing lighting or creating effects for overall feel.

Also, for the people who say GH4 looks videoish or not cinematic, that's a great example of how great it can look in the right hands.

Keep in mind that Vimeo video is compressed and 720p due to his account being free. He will make 4K/1080p version downloadable soon.

We'll be shooting this weekend, so more to come.

Lovely. Nice to see some night footage from the 18-35 + SB combo... that's the setup I'm looking at buying. Nice mood indeed, and nice footage.

This is a great example of how to shoot awesome looking low light.

The problem is a lot of cinematographers don't approach low light shooting the correct way. I always try to approach something as realistic as possible in low light. Don't try to expose for skin tones, because that won't work. You need to expose for how the eye really sees it. You can get some really nice looking low light footage if you just take a step back, look at your scene, and ask yourself "Does it really look like it was shot in a dark setting, or have I exposed it to look like it's fully lit?". Successful low light video should have a darker image. Areas close to light sources such as lamps shouldn't be blow out.

I couldn't agree more Daniel. Using both the GH4 and A7s in a current project, I see great positives in both. And the GH4 is actually very good in low light as that Vimeo post proves.
I couldn't agree more about exposing for "how the eye sees it". I'm doing that with that with both the GH4 and A7s and getting great results with both. Amazing times we're living in.
