GH4 GH4 - External 10bit 422 for greenscreen?

No matter if the Gh5 has internal 4:2:2 10bit or not. The compression will be a lot higher than using an external recorder (880Mbps for 4K ProRes HQ) - we might get 200Mbps internal? Maybe? so yes waiting for the GH5 is a good idea as we will be getting a big increase in quality over the GH4 internally. The appeal for me however of a recorder, is of the big screen and 'lightly' compressed ProRes footage - these will still be of a benefit even with the GH5, so don't think you won't use one :-)

(on a side note, I've upgraded from the Ninja2 to the Flame - Defo worth it)

The GH4 + Ninja Flame combo is amazing. Not only the external 10-bit recording ability but having a crystal clear 7" monitor is also super helpful. I don't know how I monitored before the Flame with just the 3.5" screen.

I can't/won't go back. It's worth it.

Agreed.

professionals have been spending $1k+ for years on monitor only solutions because of the direct and immediate effect having proper scopes and tools to expose with. Video is a visual medium and shooting with a small screen and only a crude histogram is like a painter painting blindfolded.

We grade with scopes for a reason because at some point eye balling it is no longer accurate enough. The same is true for shooting. The more tools you can utilize to nail that shot with precision the better.

Based on that review, we used several GH4s for various green screen interviews for a documentary (to be release in a couple months) and they keyed quite well (almost perfectly in every instance) using internal 4k (UHD) (and this was pre-V-log) using Cine-V, so going external with 10 bits will only improve things.
