I wish the color was better on these cameras. I feel like the lack of good color just makes it look like a super sharp 5d. what can I do to fix the color?
 
I personally dont have issues with the color and it doesn't look like a 5D at all to me. I shoot with Cinelike D and tweak it in post.

What profile are you using? Do you grade your shots? Are you tweaking profiles? Shooting in HD or 4K? These blanket statements like yours are hard because so many factors changes the look and I hate to say this but usually it's operator error that gets people in trouble.

doesn't everybody color grade? Anything that looks cool has been graded. Reality is boring looking.
I just don't see the color issue with this camera - a little red push like most DSLRs, but easily adjusted.
(I'm not a pro either)
 
I agree. Get the white balance NAILED, and exposure NAILED and the GH4 has beautiful colour rendering. Get it wrong and it can be pretty ugly.
 
I agree with getting accurate white balance and color grading in post. Anything shot on CineD will need grading.

I mean if you're really trying to get a baked in cinema look straight out of camera; you could go with these settings. I use them for when I'm not grading and going straight to delivery.

Those are about my settings, but curious why you chose to use 16-235 instead of full range? Do you like the look better of brighter darks and dimmer whites straight out of the camera? I may have to test this and see how it looks fir stuff I won't be taking the time to grade.

Wow, that Highlight/Shadow setting doesn't over contrast??? The CinelikeV setting is already really contrasty.
