GH4 Ambient Audio Recording

Looking for an ambient recording solution for my GH4 in the forests. So far have narrowed it down to the Tascam DR-100MKii using on board mics or the Audio-Technica AT2022 X/Y Stereo Microphone going straight into the camera. Budget is $250 max. Does anyone have any opinion or alternatives. Thanks......

Be sure to budget for effective wind noise protection also. Best I've found for portable recorders would be the "Windjacket" for the portable recorders with built in mics made by thewindcutter.com. I was in on field testing for the model they developed for the ZoomH1 which had horrible air current flow sensitivity. The last video test I made for them on the last pre-production prototype they sent me for testing is here:

The model they make for the Tascam DR100 series is here:

They don't seem to make anything for the AT 2022 probably due to the shape of the X/Y mic head arrangement. The "Windjacket" appears to be made only in their "Stormchaser" model (features longer and denser fur) which is the only model I'd bother with anyway.

The longer and denser the fur, the better it works. Decades ago it was determined the best wind protection material was wolf fur, it's long and dense enough to really "bleed off" wind energy. But it's not acceptable to "take" wolves to use their fur for windmuffs so outfits like thewindcutter.com use the best grades of artificial fur they can get.

You'll go about $20-$25 over budget but the above is the route I'd take.
