GH3 + XLRs

Maybe an old question, but... where do you get the "audio module" or whatever its called, for the GH3? The one with XLRs on it. Searched everywhere, can only find one for the GH4.

They never made one for the GH3. Most people buy something like the Beachtek mixer with 3.5mm output http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...MWL_sYCFcwXHwod3IsFxQ&is=REG&m=Y&A=details&Q=

But for the price I think I would go with a Tascam DR-60Dmk2 recorder and dual record http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1084690-REG/tascam_dr_60mkii_portable_recorder_for_dslr.html

There are a few other passive microphone to 1/8 inch devices out there, but pretty much all of them are going to be $200+, you could make your own with a couple transformers (about $50 each), connectors ($3 each) and a project box and wire (another $20). If you ditch the transformers you can save that money, but the quality would be as good coming out to the camera.

Here is a basic adapter http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...L7CxdeN_sYCFYwYHwodP88LLw&is=REG&Q=&A=details

Panasonic doesn't make a YAGH for the GH3, but you can use third party XLR preamp units like : BeachTek, JuicedLink Riggy, Tascam DR-60 Mk2 / Tascam DR-70D ( note the DR-70D requires a Sescom cable with 25 dB or 35 dB pad to connect to the MIC input on your GH3 or GH4 camera )

It's funny that the cheapest choice is a recorder with mic/line out. I would have thought that the simple unamplified devices would have been significantly less money.

You can opt for something like this... Kopul XLR to Stereo Mini-Plug Cable (1.5')

But it won't supply phantom power and it won't be a great fit for the GH3, which needs a -20 dB audio signal to record good audio. ( the GH4 works fine with a -50 dB MIC level signal )
