Gh3 or Used Gh2?

Need a second camera.

Should it be a new gh3 or used gh2?

Or should it be a Canon?

I make short films and already own a gh2

Is the difference that great?

And if so, what should I do with the Gh2 I own?

Are you saying the quality is so vast that I'd not be able to use footage from my gh2 with footage from my gh3?

You can mix footage from the GH2 and GH3 fairly easily, but after getting my GH3, I had to buy another, so I sold my GH2.

It's in low light where there's a difference in image quality, it's better on the GH3, but probably not enough to justify the price difference alone, but add in the much longer battery life, ease of use (I like having an ISO and WB button on top), much better touch screen, waterproofing and overall ergonomics and the GH3 is in one word: wonderful

If I'd to use 4 words that didn't really make sense to describe the GH3 I'd opt for: sex on a stick

All take your word about sex on a stick.

By the way, what did you sell your GH2 for?

Don't have the GH3 yet, but my take after peeping a lot of footage is, get the GH3 if 60p1080 is needed. Otherwise, especially with Driftwood's latest hacks (moon for example) the GH2 might be producing a more pleasing image. Caveat: the 320 bug on the GH2 freaking sucks and ruins shots... so there's another reason maybe to upgrade.

I sold it to a mate so I probably sold it cheap, for £500 with a lens, eye-fi card, spare batteries and a spare charger.

The lack of the ISO bug is welcome too as the last poster mentioned.

What do Driftwood's hacks do and how do I get it?

The GH2 is a very nice compromise. No doubt the GH3 has a few definite ups on the GH2, however based on image alone I think the GH3 is a little superior (a good stop in DR over the GH2 in both shadows and highlights, better low light, 60p 1080 etc.), and the GH2 has a more pleasing image (just personal opinion, but to me it has a more filmic aesthetic; detail looks slightly more natural vs hard edged and over-defined) Overall, it just has "that look" I guess.

So if judging spec-wise, GH3 no question. Image-wise only, I'd still be a little tempted to keep using the GH2 between it and the GH3. It's a hard choice, but it just depends on what your needs are. If you make money shooting video and are a working professional, then the GH3 is probably the best choice here. If you were gonna do a narrative / personal project, then I wouldn't count out the GH2.

from what ive seen the gh2 is nearly moire-issue free. while the gh3 definitely exhibits some...

you get weather seal, bigger body, better controls. a bit better low light performance and 108060 from a gh3.
if none of that matters, get a gh2
