GH2 Gh3 full specs now posted

Looks like ETC is retained, now with 2.4x, 3.6x and 4.8x zoom available. I was afraid that it may have be removed like the Canon T4i.

That's the killer application for me, so I guess I'll be saving up for a GH3. This will definitely make a great travel combo, some better telephoto choices would be great.

The display bezel looks flush with OLED panel, as if there is a glass cover. So did they go with a capacitive touch sensor this time?

Seems so, according to imaging-resources.com

The Panasonic GH3's OLED monitor also retains the touch panel introduced in the GH2, but it now uses capacitive rather than resistive technology. That is the same technique used on high-end smartphones, and should translate to better sensitivity.

And techradar.com

As before, the Panasonic GH3's 3-inch screen is touch-sensitive, but instead of being resistive it is now capacitive (like an iPhone screen) so it responds to a touch of the finger rather than a press. We found it very responsive.

This will be a big improvement IMO.

3) The wide-DR mode seems at first glance to be a sort of Red HDRx type of mode. They show over/underexposed frames being combined for a wide-DR, and then they say that it's available in video shooting too.

First time I've read something about a "wide-DR mode" on the GH3! Are you sure, Barry, that such thing exists on the GH3? Didn't read it on any other place. Sounds very interesting.

Yes, on the panasonic site it talks about the HDR capabilities, but it seems like it might be only in stills... I don't know if it can do it in video or not.

My understanding is that it's a photo only feature. Particularly since it does the processing right away in camera. That would be a massive processing job for video.

+Flip screen
+1080p60fps

Only thing missing for me now is the low light noise performance. If that's good, then i'll order one gh3 right away.

Looking for some good reviews now. Come on Mr. Bloom :)

...Take another look at the “Genesis” film that Philip Bloom was DP for. The BTS video explains that the night "police" scenes were shot using only available street lights and the lights from the police cruisers. I know for a fact that my GH2 would die a thousand horrible deaths trying to shoot good footage under these conditions. I would have to add tons of fill light to lower the contrast to get something usable with my GH2. Right here, this tells me that the new GH3 is going to be a very good low light camera, with much better contrast control than my very contrasty patched GH2 beastie is. This alone is worth $1,300 to me. ( much cheaper than a $2,100+ Canon or Nikon body for low-light work )

The best low-light, high-ISO video performance I've seen is with the Nikon D5100 and D7000. They have a 1.5-stop dynamic range advantage over the GH2 and can produce usable video up to ISO 6400. If the GH3 can improve on the GH2 just a bit, it may give the Nikons a run for the money.
