GH3 GH3 Footage from photographyblog

Also nasty moire ( vent on the wall ) and aliasing ( the edge of the carpet ) in the native MTS 1080 50i(25p) video download from the Vimeo website.

Not liking this at all... :-(

Guys this is interlaced 1080i content and not 25p content. Whoever, took the video had no idea what they were doing.

If you check out the native 1080 24p ALL I-Frame 72Mbps video of the dancers ( 508 MB MOV file on the shooter's Vimeo page ), which is definitely progressive, you will see the same moire and aliasing problems as the other footage.

I won't buy it if the GH3 has worse moire / aliasing than the GH2 does. I would rather live with the limited dynamic range of the GH2 than sacrifice image quality. ( I'll save up for a BMC or a C100 instead )

I think a lot of pre-orders just got canceled.

Not really, based on these awful, awful samples? This footage is bad all around and the only thing it shows for sure is that Panasonic is lending their pre-production cameras to too many amateurs.

However, all of the samples so far have shown unacceptable moire and aliasing. These were supposed to be production ready or atleast near production ready. Not many people would accept this level of moire. That was one of the biggest selling points for the GH2.

Hehe- why do the folks who know the least about how to shoot end up getting their hands on the cool cameras first....

A bit harsh posting this comment on the guys actual video

He does this for a living and he posted a 25p sample when it was 1080i. He is going to get called out on his mistakes. The problem is that they got still photographers to test a camera for video.

...I really hope that these things can be fixed before the release of the GH3, otherwise why bother ?

If I want better stills I can buy an Olympus OM-D EM-5 body for $1,000.

Better video ( no worse than the GH2 ) is the only reason I have for investing in a new GH3 body.

This is disheartening but I'll wait a little longer before I decide.

One of the main things that I don't like about my 7D is the aliasing and moire.
The one thing I was looking to move away from IQ-wise.

I don't recall people bitching about moire and aliasing in Bloom's video. Did I miss something?

The "Genesis" video looked like it was shot with the sharpness dialed way down, and had a fair amount of shallow dof. Both of which help hide the aliasing. Many of the deep focus shots were probably done in ETC mode, which I suspect on the GH3 will alias less than the full-sensor mode.

In the Meantime GH2 Hack footage looks beautiful........

Indeed. I had been considering picking up a GH2 as a complement to my HMC40 but decided to wait for the GH3. Now? It's too soon to count the GH3 out, but so far there are no obvious improvements to the video quality over the GH2 and at least one regression (the aliasing). Maybe Mosaic will make an AA filter for the GH3...
