If you ask me stoneinapond. No, noice is in all modes with manual mode M in low light (when underexpose) In other mode A.S Auto expo compensate so there is no low light.

I think many are getting confused about the actual resolution of the GH2 EVF vs GH3. The GH1 and GH2 EVFs were based on DLP-like technology (I think they were made by Epson), which uses every dots sequentially, displaying RVB pixels by alternating them in time (causing by the way some rainbow effects). The GH3 OLED EVF uses a more conventional spatial RVB arrangement, so the dots should be divided by 3 to have the real pixels for resolution. So, the actual resolution of the GH3 is at least half of the other ones. I'm puzzled that it is not more obvious to all GH3 owners... When I received mine, I was astonished by the incredibly low resolution, the step backward. For example, a small text that I can read with my GH2, I have to double it's size to be readable on the GH3. Personally, the EVF is mainly for manual focusing, I care a lot less about contrast or colour. On GH2, pixels were almost indistinguishable. On GH3, I see them clearly, could almost count them! It looks to me like the EVF of my 2009 Sony camcorder... So, with my GH3, I consider almost impossible to make a accurate manual focusing, specially using wide open Voigtlander lenses. I'm really disappointed. One more thing: don't be fooled by the menus font rendering (better on GH3), this is completely independent from screen resolution.
Thanks for that. And a damn, damn shame...And I think I actually made a mistake in reading this thread as it relates specifically to the EVF, not the OLED flip out screen. How does that compare to the GH2's LCD? Is it at least as good? Thanks again.

Or you can just add and external EVF and enjoy the wider DR of the Gh3.That is a disappointment. Due to old age, I find it difficult to see the flip out screen without glasses. I rely mainly on the EVF for accurate focussing, as most of my lenses are vintage. Maybe I'll hang onto my Gh2's just a little longer.
I find nothing wrong with either viewing device on the Gh3. Now the Gh2 monitor? POS! Actually the Gh2 body as a whole is a POS! Even the HDMI out on the Gh2 is a POS! Nobody here has even mentioned the HDMI out on the Gh3. It's awesome when you plug in your monitoring. ANd when we shoot something of importance, like on a job, we usually have the external monitoring going.
You could put a tack in the EVF of Gh3 and I'd still pick the camera over the Gh2.
Keep the discussion on the EVF, not the workarounds, and/or your realities of using an ext. monitor anyway. It's besides the point.
+1But wouldn't that be just a complaining thread rather than a solution thread?
Not to be negative, but like the VF on the Canon C100, most people came into the camera knowing the EVF wasn't of pro quality and they'd need a adaptation of some sort.
I wrote recently, after shooting a couple of short pieces that I posted here, that I was surprised at how useful I found the EVF in those challenging circumstances - but that's all I had to work with.
But before the camera even arrived I was talking with Zacuto and Hoodman about an immediate solution, which neither have yet.
So I figured out a really simple and effective way to have a pro EVF before our next shoot (this past week.)
I discussed it a few threads down if you're interested.
But wouldn't that be just a complaining thread rather than a solution thread?
It's really not that serious. First, do you have the Gh3? I have it and I don't really have an issue with the evf. Let's just say I've seen and used worse EVF's. And if I rig up the Gh3 for any serious work, I'm gonna use and external solution as I would do with any camera.Keeping the discussion on the EVF specifically? That isn't inherently complaining. I think it's fine if people disagree that there is a problem, but since the camera is so new, it actually does help if there is a thread that confirms or denies there's a serious problem about the EVF.
